Do you have anything better in mind given cable providers are also moving to all IP all fiber future. At some point there will be no difference between cableco and telco.

I care. So you think Copper is better? All Verizon is doing is upgrading to a new pipe which better meets there needs and their customers and instead of only running it halfway they are going all the way home.

Copper doesn't cost $1,000 per home to wire.

A. That price will come down over time.

B. Even at $1K per home, that is a deal. Fiber is not limited to any speed, in theory the speed is unlimited and based only on the equipment at each end.

Wait 5, 10, even 15 years and see what you think then when it's STILL the greatest and fastest way to move data. Your probably just pissed because you live in Podunk, Montana and you don't even have copper yet. LMAO.

PS. The internet was a "fad" at one point.

Fiber, just like everything else, is limited to the speed of light.

The Internet still is a fad. Intranets are not.

But I'll bite.

Your argument is flawed as you are not comparing apples to apples. A much better comparison would be if you were to amortized the cost of wiring a house across the life of the infrastructure as well as cost savings by doing the upgrade. If you compare THAT number to the equivalent number from your local cable provider laying it's copper as well as it's HFC network upgrades and associated equipment from a decade ago, I bet the numbers will be a lot closer.

Fiber also lasts on average about 30 years if installed properly.
