Re: Richmond, VA. FIOS

Woodlake/hampton park is done with the fiber.
The Fans is almost done.
I guess I won't be able to get FIOS since I don't live in quote un-quote "SO-call Rich neighborhoods"

I am part of the Stuart C.O. as well. I was told they are already doing the final testing though which makes me think it will be available to some soon. I was also told by Verizon it would be available in some areas before others so since they were in front of my house saying they were running the final tests I am thinking it will be available to me quite soon.

Just an update: I live in the 1600 block of W. Grace St (Stuart Ave. C.O.) and the conduit was being laid by the local electrical contractor.( Aug.4, 2005) He did indicate that Verizon would be on the street within two days filling it with beautiful fiber. As for the "person" who referred to the Fan as "one of those Richmond places" (paraphrase) I live next door to a half-way house and across the street from a very successful crack house, so don't come down on those of us who choose to live the urban life, much less Verizon as they are obviously filling the wants and needs of those of us who are NOT wealthy.

VOL is only interested in the fan because of the potential of the VCU crowd and the people living it.

My sister lives on Winder st. She will be able to get FIOS. I damn well know she isn't interested but it's a byproduct of it.

This is where I saw Verizon contractors lying fiber this Saturday in Chesterfield. They were all over in that neighborhood by Genito and Hull.

Yes. The Fan is not as nice an area as some people think and the same goes for the West End and Richmond as a whole.

When the Verizon guys were installing fiber in the Woodlake / Foxcroft area, I asked when it would actually be available. I was told around December - my street was done in late June, and the rest of the neighborhood by the end of July (I think), so it looks like about 4-5 months from laying fiber to getting it turned on. My guess is that there might also be a waiting period if a lot of people want it installed.

A couple of months ago I saw some Verizon trucks on Spring Run (off Hull Street) in Chesterfield County....up by Birkdale. The trucks had the very large flourescent orange tubing that was apparently being laid in the ground... I wonder if this was FTTP (FIOS)?

I live in the new section of Birkdale...$300k - $600k homes so I sure hope we can get FIOS... I do wish the 30/5 plan was not $199...owch.... I would bite at $89-$99 per month.

THANK YOU VERIZON!!!

You are correct. The orange conduit is being laid by a local contractor just prior to the fiber being installed by Verizon. Once it's actually in the conduit, Verizon then begins to test from the C.O. and turnup for actual use begins one to two months later. You're well on your way!

Geez, if I could afford a 600k home, I wouldnt blink at $199 for fios. The mortgage alone would be like $4000.

Does having them install fiber on Bailey Bridge mean everyone off Bailey Bridge will get it? I live in a neighborhood between Bailey Bridge Claypoint and 288 on the map above and trying to find out any info from Verzion is like pulling teeth.

If you're calling for info, you're correct. Best way I've found to find out what they're doing is to talk to the guys doing the work. They're usually friendly, and willing to tell you what stage of the work for your area they're doing at the time. If you find your HUB hanging on a pole nearby, you can watch it, to see what stage you're at.

Only problem with that is I dont know where to look for the hub all the lines are buried. I noticed the trucks a while back and didn't put 2 and 2 together until I stumbled across this forum. They appear to be done with the installtion. Since I dont recall them working in my neighborhood I doubt we will get it. I wouldnt put it past them to have the fiber run across the enterence to my subdivison but not into it.
