Re: Ah but

how is this disturbing? MS did not say what it's going to do with the spyware company. Has it occurred to you that maybe, just maybe, MS will terminate their spyware to stop the spread of it? For what it's worth you're an idiot if you fail to use more than one anti-spyware program on your computer b/c what one company might take away from its spyware definitions another company might continue to keep.

I'll continue to use MS Anti-Spyware, Ad-Aware, Spyware Doctor, and Spybot Search & Destroy. And on top of that I even use Trendmicro's Anti-Spyware utility. Wake up people you're not safe with just one anti-spyware program.

This is a good move by MS if they go on and eliminate the spyware company and use their programmers to do other work, 'productive' work that helps the computer user.

But that isn't the effect it would have, assuming the buyout is simply to shut Claria down. When you pay $500 million for a company to go away, hundreds of other companies will pop up and copy what Claria did to try and rake in similar riches. It exacerbates the problem and helps to legitimize adware/spyware companies. A lot of VC's would be happy to invest for a return like that!
