| | Plugging a camcorder into Slingbox Has any one pluged a camcorder into Sligbox to do a live broad cast ? What kind of delay are you seeing ?
I am looking to get this as a low cost Video Conferencing system.

| | The reason why the quality of the stream on the Slingplayer is so good is because of that delay. If you look at the meter on the right hand side it shows you a buffer. The delay can run any where from 1 to 10 seconds. This is because in order to keep the stream running smoothly, the player has to have a buffer to compensate for dips in connection speed. You can think of it in terms of the way that your portable cd player holds a buffer, so that if you cause the cd to skip, it will continue to play. | |

Glad you are interested in the Slingbox. Unfortunately in order to do live videoconferencing a whole bunch of other factors need to work out really well (the device was specifically designed for TV viewing). If you want to experiment, you CAN turn off most buffering, although if you experience massively fluctuating network conditions, your stream may suffer for it...
Try this out:
1. Launch SlingPlayer (make sure you are using build 84)
2. If you are currently streaming, click Stop
3. Click Player > SlingPlayer Options
4. Switch buffer from Automatic to Manual, and make it 1 second
If you want to get *real* funky with it, try these steps:
5. Select the "Encoding" tab at the top (still in the same SlingPlayer Options dialog window)
6. Turn on "Manually adjust..."
7. Now for the hard part... you need to make sure you set Video Bitrate down low enough that you won't have any connection problems. You should also keep I-Frame interval at nothing above a 7. Ultimately, you need to play around here until you find a 'happy medium'.
I'd be very curious to hear how it goes!
Besides, if it doesn't work, you can always go back to streaming TV...

Also the cleint software, is that free (can i give to any one who wants to watch) or do they have to own a Slingbox also.
