thepinkchris : Acanac has been the worst company I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. I tried to look for a smaller isp after leaving Rogers. Acanac seemed appealing and at first, I had few suspicions. The package arrived, I set it up correctly, then the games began. Customer service, is non-existant, it's like explaining your problem to an automated machine that breaks down the second you finished inputting your querey. No connection, ok, it's supposed to take 5 to 10 days, but you figure they'll at least mention that when you talk to tech support. No answers, no help, nothing but the most basic repetition of the instructions already written down and enclosed with the router package. The days pass on, and there is no change. Further calls to tech support leave me with added frustration, that same song and dance, all official dialogue with absolutely no actual assistance. It gets to day 14!!!! Now it's 5-10 days in ontario or you get your money back according to Acanac. I call tech support and speak to at least the 6th different tech support employee who offers no help, but agrees to write down a letter to the management for me, indicating that I want the full refund for lack of services rendered if the connection isn't established on day 15. Well, the next morning, no change on the status. I call customer service again...and....the number you've dialed has been disconnected. I don't have the internet, so I can't look up any other contact numbers, and the number they gave me to call them is now disconnected. I tried for days in case it was a temporary error, but the phone line remained dead, disconnected or no longer in service. So I've had no way of contacting them, and of course, without providing me with internet service, they bill my credit card for the service they didn't provide!!!!! After a month of hearing nothing, more bullshit with other dsl providers saying that bell won't let them let me have dsl service, I'm back to the monopoly of Rogers, and I feel so violated and dirty, but at least they provide the service they claim. Acanac is the most irresponsible, viciously incompetant, or just plain cruel and malicious, company i've ever had to deal with. Thanks to them, I have to research a credit card dispute, all because they have been trying to take advantage of me.
A cap on the insult, after over a month, I get one random phone call from Acanac asknig me if I still want their services!!! This is after a letter to the management fuming about their practices and asking for my money back, and at least a month since their frickin phone was cut off to me. Of course I tell the sales person NO and explain what his company has put me through, reaffirming my desire to be refunded. His reply, "sorry to hear that sir, have a sir day" click*.
DO NOT TRUST ACANAC, they show every sign of being a scam, at the very least, they've really screwed with my life, my communication abilities, and my funding. I'm injured seriously and unemployed, I can't afford to be screwed over when I'm just trying to research my condition so I have a chance of getting better. Spread the word, Acanac does not deserve to be in business, if it is business they actually claim to do.

CookieKid : My 2nd last update.

I've called up billing and talked to them to find out what's going on with my account. The girl told me that there's a note saying not to charge me any amount until my internet is operation. Now that's out of the way, I decided to dig further into the connection situation. I called Bell to find out if what Acanac said was true (without asking directly). The sales guy was pretty nice. He answered my questions promptly, checked the availability and said I was eligible for 2 business packages, Basic (3Mbps/800kbps/$54.95 + $5 rental) and Ultra (6Mbps/800kbps/84.95 + $5 rental), but only under a a business account and a 1 year contract. I asked him if I could just buy a modem so I don't have to pay and he said he'll get back to me on it since noone has actually asked him that before. So now that I have my answer, I called Acanac's tech support. The tech support told me the same old "Telus story" and blah blah blah. I got bored with his story so I asked if I could talk to Timothy, the guy who knows all the backend stuff. To my surprise, the tech guy WAS Timothy. He told me that he was mistaken and that they have to use Telus' line in the West since they're using their equipment. I asked him about the speed situation and after much arm twisting, he told me that speed will go up to 1.5Mbps/480kbps and not higher. That shocked me since I'm paying $24.95 (one year promo price) and $37.95 afterward with Primus. So after almost 3 months (August 5th til present) of waiting and wasted time, I'm sending back the modem and get my deposit back.

CookieKid

anon : Acanac just sucks Totallly. Thats it. They can't give an exact time frame for installation, if you go into a contract they charge you in advanced, customer service and techinal support have different answers everytime i call. They are so good in charging people and Fkn bad with service, takes so much time to get a refund back. First they told me that dsl is available in my area, BC Vancouver, had to wait for 2 weeks, then i called and it was because of the telus strike, so i waited and then finally telus strike is over and when i called back acanac, i was told that my area can not be serviced for dsl because of physical problems. Dumb people, i just had dsl with primus and telus and had the 2.5mb speed. Called telus and after a looooong talk and begging to try the 4mb speed even though it was for a business acount, i was given 1 day to try it and yes, my line is capable of 4mb. Too bad telus charge 100$$ something for the speed, 4mb is not available for residential. So i asked telus if i get a service from another company who uses telus lines, will telus control the speed or not, and i was told that they wont and acanac controls the speed. Acanac was telling me that my line is not physically capable and if it was, telus might control the speed. And they want me to still stay in que for dsl application cause a connection might be established. They use the word "might" a lot actually i just dont remember eveyrthing anymore. They are not sure of things. Acanac, you just SUCK.

LoKi DarkGod : I just recently stumbled upon there website while surfing for something totally unrelated, and was taken back by there claims.. as you all stated.. some of them do seem pretty far fetched, but when you sit down and think about it.. most of the stuff they offer is possible.. just the ISPs we currently use dont offer it. They could offer 100gigs of email storage, but honestly, probably 95% of there subscribers arent gonna need or use 100gigs.. so they dont technically NEED 100gigs per user. an easier way would be to have a mass amount such a 1 or 2TB HD's and add more space when they need it. This would require more upgrades to there mail server more often then most ISP's.. but it is plausable.

When the powers that be concerning DSL in ontario (Bell) decided to start charging for overages.. alot of DSL companies followed suite, since Bell was gonna charge them if there users went over. Companies could have decided then to go with the umetered accounts, but they chose not to. now it's avaliable on almost every DSL provider out there, and some cable providers as well.

All I'm saying is, while it may seem skeptical, it is possible and maybe this new DSL provider is trying to set new standards.. like gmail did for online email storage.

either way.. I'll wait to see how the people in here who are getting it say the service is before I make any final judgements, but if the service is even close to what they advertise, it seems to me that the current DSL ISP's are gonna have a run for there money.

....just my $0.02

Out east where Bell/Sympatico does offer 4Mbps ADSL, I can see them reselling those services at the claimed 4Mbps and unlimited.

In BC/Alberta, Telus is the only real ADSL provider. If Acanac is reselling Telus, I doubt they can offer what they offer out east. I'm thinking in the end Acanac will be like Primus...higher speeds out east (up to 3.0 Mbps downstream and 800 Kbps upstream) (guess they are squeaking in up to 4Mbps), and crippled speeds in the west (up to 1.5 Mbps downstream and 512 Kbps upstream.) Both Primus and Acanac offer services in the same 4 provinces. Coincidence? I think not.
