| di 624 reboot problem I found something intresting on the di 624 rev c that might be causing some reboot problems. Thanks to a few people on here that got me thinking Funchords and talon88 and one other then i found your id i will post it too.
With all of us having reboot funchord sorry but after about 3 days the Xr mode went to reboot. As one person said i am going to take it put in the washing machine on rinse cycle and put tennis balls in there for good luck and see what happens!!!
I opened the router looking for bad traces of solider on the board didnt any but i notice something i noticed they had a shield around the transmitter i decided to check it out and look for bad joints looking around and was going to out the shield on starting looking at why not leave it off. I noticed alot in the forums that it runs fine without wireless so left it out.
It has been running 3 days and counting it is horizontal and i have had the wireless going crazy to force it to reboot to no avil.
Still thoery but i believe the holes in the shield are too small for the transmitter. Might be a large pocket of heat on the one chip causing the reboot. |

If you still have the back off of the thing, can you post a "before" and "after" picture so that people know what you're talking about?
If it is what I'm thinking, this is doubly ironic because the shield is intended to protect the transmitting circuits from stray RF -- which presumably would cause the router to reboot! -- Robb Topolski http://www.funchords.com/ Hillsboro, Oregon USA They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security |

| i will try to get some pics of it up tommorrow.
Yes it is the shield. im running it at 50 % power. Firmware version 2.50.
For the people who have opened the di-624 REV c i also notice there is a second antenna which you could solider in but it is blank. Starting to wander if it is a load issue with the transmitter. Or if this is a old design from rev A and B. |

 | Found i pic of a di 624 Rec c
Where the little yellow arrow is where the shield is at. I have taken this off leaving it open not closed in the pic.
Its a theory but is seems to be working. |

I have also found that completely disabling super G seems to help considerably with stability. In addition to those changes, my router runs in G only mode and I have disabled SSID broadcast. I think those are the only changes from factory defaults. |

It's supposed to be a diversity antenna.
Rev A didn't have the trace, it had two external antennas. -- Robb Topolski http://www.funchords.com/ Hillsboro, Oregon USA They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security |

| I did see that one but if you look up from the one you circled there are three traces of solider just north of the plastic pin that is for a other antenna so it is possible for three antennas to run on the unit. For some reason they only put one on the box when it can run two just like rev A and b.
i posted the pic but it will not display for some reason. |
|
 | Talon did you notice the sheild and really there is no way for air to get to the transmitter they have holes on the top but none on the bottom or sides. |

For some reason they only put one on the box when it can run two just like rev A and b. My strong suspicion is that there are only two. If you want to add a second external antenna, you will want to break a trace (perhaps on the underside of the board) between the built-in antenna and your new external one.
I'm now thinking this is a quarter-wave antenna -- it's too small to be half wave. It might be worth doing. -- Robb Topolski http://www.funchords.com/ Hillsboro, Oregon USA They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security |

| After looking you would break the trace on the top side of the board.
IM running 4 days and no reboot and counting. 61 million packets and 28 million though the wireless side and its running strong. Still theory but seems to be working . Could be why the router likes to run vertial too the heat is away from the chip, is south in the circuit there when you point it on its side. |

Greg_ZPremium join:2001-08-08 Springfield, IL | reply to hayabusa3303 Go my way, ditch the DI-624 for a different router (got a WRTP54G with Vonage), and let Linksys figure out what to do with the doorstop.
I got mine to stay stable for over a month by turning off XR mode, keeping it at 2.50 firmware, turning Auto channel on, placing in 'G' mode, and doing some other housework things. -- One man's customer loyalty is another man's misguided arrogance. |

Of cause no hole at the bottom because bottom is the PCB (MainBroad).

 | reply to Talon88 Correct how it is suppose to vent ? If there is no hole on the pcb. How is the cool air going to get in and cool it down with the shield on? that is what i want to know.
why i took mine off and its working like a pro. |

 | reply to funchords funchords, would you be willing to discuss DI-624M? I want to attach an external antenna. Don't know how, or what is safe for the unit. I might as well forget the warranty. The damn thing is no good to me the way it is. |
