Yes, More Upload

I have been complaining about this every time there has been an increase in speed. I have gone through 2 download speed increases since I have started using Time Warner's network, and not one of those times included an increase in upload speed.

I have the 5/2 FIOS package from verizon and I would love to have 1 more Mb for upload. 3Mbps would really be the sweet spot for me. It would allow me to run some services on my connection without any degradation (because of multiple users).

I won't complain though.

Are there things that Verizon doesn't want you to do on your line like host servers?

Some of us would kill for 2 Mbps up. Majority of us cannot get DSL let alone FIOS.

Servers are not allowed according to the FIOS TOS, but people are still running them on non-standard ports.

I have seen the price for that tier too. That is a lot of money to spend on a residential connection.

I just posted in another forum about the fact that my cable DL speed over 4 years has increased from 1.5Mb to 6.0Mb, but my UL speed has only moved from 256k to 384k in that same amount of time. Only a 32k per year increase. Thats ridiculous, and it is purely about the cable ISP's $$greed$$.

Forgot to mention I checked cable TV service Verizon is offering and it is sweeeeet. Tell your law makers that you welcome Verizon FIOS Cable TV and High Speed Broad Band so Verizon can come to every body faster than Cable Companies would like. Cable Companies are fighting hard to Keep verizon away from this business. Even in my area Virginia (North) Verizon win after a bloody battle with Cable Companies. Areas you can not get FIOS or DSL is due to cable companies bribing law makers and making it close to impossible for competition to get into this business and kick their behinds.

Damn the midwest, Damn it to hell.. Yes we have commycast here in the midwest and darn it to hell when I needed more upload for my applications I ended up getting Qwest to help out.. Then I just couldn't afford it anymore..

I hope upload increases will happen soon.

Along these lines, you must also realize that along with every download speed increase, we are actually getting a LOWERED upload bandwidth if they don't increase it also. If you double the speed coming down, you've increased overhead and ACK returns on the upload side w/o a comparable speed increase.

So, you are actually LOSING usable upstream with every download speed increase. :/

That's only true if you're downloading at maximum speed. Once you start uploading, it will cripple your downstream anyway due to TCP asymmetry issues.

If you aren't using the downstream while you upload, the upload can still operate at full boar. Increasing the downstream capacity will not affect your ability to upload at maximum speed.

What are your max download speeds for websites like fileplanet (free/subscriber)?
