it did not work for me as well. however i have earlier downloaded the validation update (kb892130) from the microsoft site. when i try to uninstall it i can't find it in the list of programs in the 'add and remove programs' menu. any ideas on how to uninstall it?

It's an active x pluggin, you can disable it at open IE/tool/internet option/program/managed add-on/window genuine validation tool and disable it.

thanks man, that really worked. after disabling the activex plugin the little script in the address bar worked like a charm.

found a website where one can update winxp using firefox without validating. read about it on another group and thought that i should share this. however before being able to update you would have to download a plugin for firefox (i assume that most people would be using ff from this forum). when it begins to scan your pc for files just allow it. it will then give you a list of updates and then you can choose wether to update or not.

Here's a site where u dl the updates directly from Microsoft's ftp/http server without goin thru Windows Update.

This has most if not ALL the necessary updates + the extras you don't get from other place.

this only apply to users who have Service Pack 2 installed in the PC .

For example, my case, only using Service Pack 1 , do not have the option to disable any Active X plugin since it is not in the Internet Explorer

In that case, you better of install SP2.

You can even get the SP2 upgrade CD free from Microsoft website.. but it takes about 1month for delivery
