Not surprising since he and Palmeiro have been friends and team mates for many years. I'd like to think that there was a mistake made here rather than something worse, but I can't be sure, and the whole thing does look bad. It is saddening that Pro Sports, business and politics all seem to reinforce the win regardless of the cost to ethics mentality. Unfortunately the young people seem to be apt students of the lesson.

What was the drug?
How did it get into your system?
If it was oral, we will be a lot more protective of him.
If it was injected, we can still be very forgiving, but we are going to require "coming clean". Even if it was a stupid deliberate mistake, we can roll with that, just don't let the press jerk us around and beat our ears to death with repetition. Let's get it over with, and Raffie will find that Baltimore still embraces its own.

History can show us that it is not the mistake that sank people, it was the cover-up afterward. And now is the critical time for him, it is not what he did, it is what he does right now that will set Baltimore's final response (IMHO).

Agreed. I've boycotted MLB for years. It was getting bad enough when Angelos tried to buy a 1st place team instead of the old fashioned way of bringing talent up through the minors. Then there were the strikes or threat of strikes. It also burned me to see players running after balls with a couple pounds of gold around their necks. The last straw for me was when they gave out a $200M contract. I lost all faith in baseball (and most sports) after the strikes in the 80's and 90's. The records for homeruns do not come close to what was accomplished 50 years ago. The ball wasn't loaded then and the outfield walls weren't so damn close to the plate. Sorry, the game is just not inspiring and is normally boring as hell.

I will say that Ripkin Jr. deserves his record. To play that many games without a break is truly incredible. He's the last thing that came out of the Orioles that Baltimore can be proud of, IMOHO.

I do occasionally go to a minor league game here in Bowie. Those are a blast. The hometown, goofy atmosphere where people have fun is what baseball is all about.
