rizzo2dial : Wow did I have a scare! It took me a few tries to upgrade from AR16O (w/ downloader 8x8 010113) to AR17I.

At first I simply attempted an HTTP xfer. The router automatically attempted to reboot into d/l mode, and the HTTP transfer began. Shortly thereafter, a PAGE NOT FOUND appeared in the file xfer browser frame, and the xfer progress in the status bar stopped progressing. Lights initially flashed on the DTA but then stopped.

After HARD RESETTING the DTA (a few times), I didn't get a DHCP assigned IP address, and I couldn't figure out if it even had an IP address. Finally I rebooted my router and the DTA received it's original DHCP assignment (i.e. the static DHCP assignment I programmed into my router for my DTA's AR16O mac address).

The upload hadn't completed, so I was still on AR16O. I then re-attempted the same file xfer (w/o manually rebooting the router first), and once again there was a browser frame showing a page not found. The DTA itself was flashing constantly though, so I opened up another browser window, navigated to the DTA web-page, and saw the most spectacular thing:

The DTA-310 w/ an old Packet8 look 'n feel (including an old Packet8 logo) showing the "limited" Packet8 menu of options, but with a listed APP CODE of Leadtek AR16O!

I clicked on the "Reset" link (of the web-page showing a Packet8 look 'n feel), rebooted the DTA into downloader mode (which upon reboot continued to show the P8 look 'n feel), and re-attempted the upgrade to AR17I.

That upgrade succeeded w/o a hitch, and when it was done, it informed me that the update was successful. It then gave me the option to reboot the adapter into Application Mode (which I chose).

I'm back to the LeadTek look 'n feel and now have AR17I. I haven't yet re-configured my Stanaphone settings; however, it looks like there may be slightly more SIP config options in AR17I than AR16O.

Rizzo

rcilink : To get your DTA310 working with asterisk, you might want to try the following:

Standard Disclaimer: Do this at your own risk! So, don't try this with a DTA310 that is working with a Packet8 subscription! I have actually toasted several DTA310 units, and one BPA410 unit.. I am waiting for a seriously rainy week so I can build the host interface cable and attempt to re-flash the unit while it is in slave-mode. Since I don't have much help from the 8x8 crew, this may be a long-term project.

I do have one DTA310 working with Asterisk [running the AR16O firmware]..

Perhaps these steps may work for you:

1. install firmware 12.35 or 12.39 (I have seen people post that they have used either of these).

2. As soon as it is loaded and you confirm the 'main application' is running, verify the application code and downloader code. The downloader code should NOT be 010225! If it is, try re-flashing the 13.15 packet8 firmware to prevent making your DTA310 into a brick. If it takes, you can start the steps over. Your downloader code should be lower than the 010225 version. If it is, upgrade the firmware to the LeadTek AR16O firmware. (Stay with AR16O, not any of the newer firmwares offered by LeadTek).

3. Once loaded, restart and run 'main application'. You should have AR16O with a downloader code of 010113. If not, you may find that it won't upgrade anymore... :( If your goal is to stay with the AR16O for Asterisk use, then dont worry about it. It will configure and work with Asterisk and many other providers (Not Packet8!).

No one has proven it yet, but it appears that the newer firmwares offered by Packet8 may actually break the DTA310 if loaded with the AR16O or the 11.11 firmware. It could be coded to destruct, or random occurance.. I doubt you will get them to tell you..

Good Luck!

If you have that downloader code version, try reloading the AR16O firmware to see if it makes the DTA310 happy (matched firmware set, so the DTA310 knows where the starting address of the application is).

[DTA310] Firmware Recovery Thread

rcilink : I know several here have a DTA310 with it having a 'half-loaded' firmware set.

Examples of common problems might be:

1. I was running firmware 12.39 in my DTA310 and I decided to load firmware 11.11. Now, it is stuck and I can not upgrade to any firmware.

2. I have a DTA310 that tells me "no application loaded" and is stuck in a downloader mode.

It appears that this happens when the boot/downloader firmware gets out of sync with the application firmware.

So, if this idea proves to be correct, and you find yourself with a 'stuck' DTA310, think of it this way. You need to try loading the previous firmware back into the DTA310.

For example, I have a DTA310 with the following firmware on it:

Application Code Version: DTA version 1.0 US (8x8 001315)
Downloader Code Version: 1.0 US (8x8 010225)

So, that tells me that if I load firmware 11.11 and the downloader is at 010225, i might be lucky enough to be able to re-load 13.15 and get my DTA310 'un-stuck'.

Maybe with everyone's help we could start a list here of firmware matches (Application code version + Downloader code version).. So, if your stuck with a downloader code that does not match the application code, you can find which real firmware contains that downloader code version and reload it.

It beats tossing the thing...
