bigjer : One mystery solved. Went to BD online chat and had a talk with a tech named Vincent. The entry in msconfig>startup is for auto updates which only work if BD is running. All of the aforementioned entries/items that are running mean that bit defender is receiving and sending information to your PC but there is no realtime scanning.
Had ME fooled! It does everything that a realtime scanner would do except realtime scanning!
