Re: [POLL] Which program do you use to copy DVDs?

I dunno, SVCD is in pretty widespread use I'd say, especially in Asia. I used to make a lot of them myself; the 480x480 resolution does give an outstanding picture. My biggest complaint was swapping out the discs, so I've since pretty much given up on the format.

That is too much work. My local pc store has a DVD burner for $30 after rebates. I'd much rather go that route. I too did the SVCD thing for a while...never again.

I use DVD Decrypter to rip the video_ts folder to the HDD, then I use DVD2One v1.5.1 to shrink it to DVD5. DVD2One is the fastest program I have found to shrink a dvd without hurting the video quality. I can backup a DVD in about 1hr total time (Rip+Shrink+Burn). While DVD2One is not as good as CCE, the time it saves you and the money it saves ($40 for DVD2one vs. Thousands for CCE) is well worth it. If I don't mind waiting 12hrs for a better quality copy of the DVD I use DVD-Rebuilder with CCE SP.

DVDdecrypter to rip, Nero Recode or Pinnacle Instant copy for the rest. I prefer the quality of Instant Copy, but it sometimes doesn't compress as much as it should and ends up saying the disk doesn't have enough room during the burn.

Clad DVD and nero recode . Couldn't be simpler. I'm sure if there was a child somewhere near a computer, it would be child's play for them.:D

Use XDVDShrink in Linux, and DVDShrink/DVDDEcrypter in windows, or with WINE in Linux.

It depends on the size of the DVD and the amount of space taken up by menus and extras. If it's a DVD with a lot of special features and stuff, I'll burn the movie to one disc and the extras to another with full menus on both discs. I can usually fit the movie on one 4.7GB disc with little compression this way.

DVD Decrypter to decrypt and copy all files to the HDD.
Menu Shrink (if necessary) to reduce the space taken up by menus.
Vob Blanker (if necessary) to get rid of the parts I don't want.
Nero Recode (if necessary) to compress the main movie.
Nero Burning ROM to burn the DVD.

It's a long process (1-2 hours) but I get pretty good quality movies, all the extras and menus, and I don't have to worry about my original DVDs getting scratched.

Well everyone forgot to mention that DVDShrink can in fact create .iso files. What's also freely available is daemon tools. You can make PERfect Copies of your DVDS and watch them mount them. So DVD shrink can be an all in one solution.

Any thing DVD Shrink can't handle goes to DVD Decrypter for the ripping then back to Shrink (plus Nero) for the burn...Works for me.

Re: [POLL] Which program do you use to copy DVDs?

DVD Decrypter to rip/burn. Re-encode DVD9 to DVD5 with CCE using DVD-RB.

DVD Decrypter to rip.
DVD ReBuilder (with Canopus ProCoder) to re-encode to DVD5.
UltraISO to create an image.
DVD Decrypter to burn the resulting DVD.

Re-Encoding does take a lot more time than transcoding, but quality cannot be beaten.

I voted DVD Decrypter...I use it in combination with DVD Shrink and the Roxio program to complete the process.

I use DVD Shrink, but I also use DVDdecrypter. Since you said DVD Shrink isn't considered (due to being a combo soln')

I just voted DVDdecrypter.

Some time ago here on DSLReports after the courts said DVD XCopy had to remove all it's stuff from the shelf they posted a link to a FTP site here with ALL of there stuff for free.Within 24 hours the site was down but not before I got it all.

Shrink, and XCopy-(Express) either one works fine, XCopy doesn't require Nero though.

I just made a very unfortunate discovery. Somehow when I edited the list of programs, I removed Nero by mistake. Unfortunately, there is no way to edit a poll once it's posted My apologies to all. Of course Nero can still be voted for in the "other" category.

1 Click...just as the name says, it takes only one click, and is the fastest burner I have used. Can copy and burn a CD in about 18 minutes, start to finish, unlike nero which was taking me close to an hour.
