DrewCapuGiant Diehard join:2001-12-19 California | Woohoo, going to Maui next month I haven't really started a whole lot of planning quite yet. I've been there once before (a long time ago). Did the catamaran/luau thing (Royal something? don't remember) and drove early in the morning to catch the sunrise atop whachamacallit
I'll be going with a bunch of cousins that I don't get to see much. I think it'll be loads of fun. Definitely have to do another luau.
Anything change over the last few years?

Also on the south end of the island in Makena there is a place where you can snorkel called fish cove. You take one of those kayaking trips there. Way better than Haunama Bay on Oahu. Less people, more cleaner and more colorful beautiful fish. Have fun.

DrewCapuGiant Diehard join:2001-12-19 California | reply to DrewCapu I know my that at least my sister and cousin want to do the downhill bike ride in the morning. I was thinking of getting a video camera and maybe one of these things for it.
I know I'm going to do some type of snorkelling. I've got an Oly 5060 with an UW casing that loves to get wet.
The one time that I did go to Maui with a musical group I stayed in Lahaina. I totally loved it. A lot more than Oahu which is a bit too touristy for my tastes.
Yeah, I'm going to have to learn some more Hawaiian (or pidgin English). |

| Very nice. Looks like lots of new ones.
There is also a book with lots of funny cartoons called "Pidgin To Da Max." You can probably find it in any tourist shop over there.

Oh well, too bad.
I guess I should do a quick follow up to this thread.
I had a really great time in Maui, considering it was really just a weekend.
Oddly enough, I'd say the highlight was the Maui (half) marathon. It was the main reason why one of my cousins wanted to go. All of a sudden, word of mouth happened and we had a cousins reunion going to Maui.
Of course, when we got there, I was somehow pulled into running the marathon as well. I'd never run more than 2 miles in my life and that was in high school. I didn't have any running shoes either. Just the walking shoes I basically broke in on my Spain trip.
It was definitely a fun experience. I ended up running almost a 14-minute mile. But that's with stopping to take pictures along the way, a couple pit stops, and some friendly walking and chatting with some of the others. Judging from the time stamps of some of my photos (I took pics of the mile and kilo markers) I was actually doing a 10-minute mile for awhile
We also did the Haleakala bike ride. That was fun. I'll definitely want to do that again. Hopefully, next time I'll have a bullet cam with me. |
