AJ023 : What we need is true competition in all markets where every provider has to compete based on Quality of Service and pricing NOT on hiding and manipulating information and trying to gain advantages over their competitor. While its understandable that an attorney would advise to stop talking on this subject because of competitive advantages and if there were any NDA agreements those have been unheld by the courts as well, the problem remains that each competitor is trying to gain an advantage as to market timing.

But DUE to the lack of information deficiency in todays marketplace, such DOESNT matter anymore because if epfenning didnt disclose it, I would have as not being a Verizon employee nor having any contractual obligations. All it does is pulls people like Epfenning away from letting the public whats going on and puts it through unofficial channels HOWEVER with the commonplace of digital cameras, such becomes irrelevant because the credibility of the source is not questioned. Its up to the contract the co-op board has signed. By the front of the building I used to see RCN + Time Warner flyers for service. If we have Verizon POTS as well as RCN AND Time Warner, Im wondering if Verizon will be able to come in with FIOS? But if they come in with FIOS, doesnt this deactivate the buildings copper wiring? Or is this in addition to the existing POTS?

I suspected that due to Verizon's overwhelming financials resources that MDUs would come online en mass AFTER the MCI merger is finalized by year end.

epfenning : ok a fiber switch will be placed on the outside wall where existing copper dmark is located. if building exseeds 200ft in length another will be placed on oposite side wall. fiber switches come in 4,6,12,24 ports. for an example a two story 4 person dwelling unit is being wired; under 200ft in length. a 4 port switch is installed and existing copper dmark is taken off and thrown away. main fiber comes from a fiber distribution hub; from street area/easement code which is then spliced into a pull box in ground aka green litter box. a pull box can accompany 4 fiber splices. from the pull box each seperate splice will feed a complex; thus our 4 person dwelling will recieve a splice from the pull box into the 4 port fiber switch. once that is connected, 4 seperate fibers from the switch will be channeled into the attic and then dropped into each floor/dwelling that has AC power. hopefully if a closet/laundry room etc.. has power at 2nd level then 1st level closet should have exact floor plan and match up. then a fiber will be drilled at 2nd level floor to 1st level closet and connected to ONT.

epfenning : M.D.U.'s aka Multiple Dwelling Units aka Apartments are on Verizon's major 'To Do List'. I work for a contract company for Verizon that is engineering the fiber layouts in each apartment complex in Tampa, Florida. Each dwelling resident will have an ONT placed inside; preferably a laundry room or closet. However, if a resident is on mulitple story complex then channeling is used to cover up fiber which is pulled down into next/neighbor floor. Apartments being built will not have channeling since fiber will be routed behind the drywall.
There is no need to fear now those who live in apartments. If you live in the Tampa area i can list which complexes are in queue for fiber.
