I also was having problems with the extension. I first downloaded it from dslrnotify.mozdev.org, and it never showed updated topics, even the the bbr icon didn't show, but I downloaded it from addons.mozilla.org and its working right. At mozdev I choose the newest updated notifier. At least its working now.
