Raising Prices?

said by Anonymous :
Nice move

The only way to compete with free alternatives is to increase the price.

No, not a nice move, a stupid, really stupid move

... and the music industry wonders why people pilfer tunes via P2P.

Right on, Doc

People are slowly coming to download music [although P2P downloading seems to be in the lead, so far] and 'saying $.99 isn't so bad' and now they want to raise the price ?!?! Some people are going to say 'f*ck that, I'll use P2P, it's free'. And of course, the record companies are are going to jump on this, saying 'we must do something about these pirates', when this time it will be their own fault, doubly so. First, by inflating the price of music (Cd's) and putting and second, where there is a slowly growing market of online music buying, they raise the price there. Who taught them business? You don't do a price increase on a new market [and no matter how many choices to buy music online, it's relatively new]

Only one seems to show any reason -

"I don't think it's time yet," said Jimmy Iovine, the chairman of Interscope Records, Universal's biggest division. "We need to convert a lot more people to the habit of buying music online. I don't think a way to convert more people is to raise the price.
