 | And while we worry about cell phones.. The National Guard denied Wal-Mart trucks full of water and Red Cross trucks full of food and medical help from entering NOLA.
And we're worried about cell phones. |

And we're worried about cell phones. Yeah, where did you get your info from (Idiot's are us???) As for Cellular Service, T-Mobile is not the only one, Cingular, Verizon, Sprint have all brought C.O.W.S. into the area to get communications set up for the Relief efforts, along with those areas that are seeing an influx of Refugees being brought into them. -- One man's customer loyalty is another man's misguided arrogance. |

And we're worried about cell phones. I could make up news like that and try to piss people off but Im not. What is your problem? -- For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16 |

 | reply to Enraged Anonymous Us Funny, I can't find ANY reporting of this on any reputable site. Lovely thing about the internet, people can post anything to their "blog" and anon idiots will believe it. |

 | reply to Greg_Z Here's a link to Cingular's web site on their progress at restoring service. The biggest problem with restoring cell service is that most cell sites are connected back to the core networks via T1 lines, which are controled & maintained by the phone companies. (Some use LOS microwave but that's typically only in areas where they can't get a land line to the tower.) As more power is restored to the phone companies they can bring up the COs that feed the T1s that the cell companies use.

The media has done a good enough job of showing the down side of the recovery efforts out there. Perhaps we should say "Kudos" to TMobile for their efforts and let that be it. |

And we're worried about cell phones. I can confirm that FEMA has botched some such efforts, and looks like they will continue to do so.
The Wal-Mart trucks turnback was just one instance. FEMA can't even offer assistance to anything but not-for-profit hospitals, meaning that right now all of the hospitals that could be helping can't because of no supplies, support from FEMA.
The relief effort has already moved from the confused state on into a serious CusterFluck state, we can only hope it gets lots better very fast. It was obvious to me that Pres Bush isn't really happy with the whole situation either. He just about laid it out plain and simple in a statement while he was visiting down there. Then, from what I gathered from a Meet The Press program today, his advisors told him that right now was not the time to be doing anything but giving encouragement instead of chopping heads of that might still be able to turn things around. Time for finger pointing will come, no doubt. -- BEAT IT, BILL! KIA!! |

 | reply to Orwell1984 If I was trapped in my attic and was trying to call for help, this would be important news for me. People have probably been turning their mobiles on for and off rationing their charge. It wil save some lives and it will let people know that their loved ones are alive.
I recognize 911 calls have to be connected (regardless of the SIM's status), but calling your family members and letting them know you are alive is important. |
