Re: WR850G firmware leaked

I get the same thing. In my case, I was doing it from OpenWRT using the mtd command to try to go striaght to 6.1.4 .

Good thing this was my secondary router I was not using. No I am just waiting for CompUSA to have another sale, then I should be in WDS heaven. Unless I can find a way to unbrick the router. I my case, I can use it as a switch, but I cannot ping and IP. Although, I did not try the 192.... address. i may try that when I get home.

I thought I bricked mine when it failed during flash........couldn't get into web configuration

I found this elsewhere

Assign a static ip to your adapter...must be same subnet as router

I used 192.168.10.10 with 255.255.255.0

In a dos window...make sure you can ping router (ping 192.168.10.1)

Then Use the following command on a Windows xp(2000) PC:

"tftp -i 192.168.10.1 PUT WRT850.trx" (exact filename with path ie. C:\temp\wrt850.trx)

This command needs to be executed from a command prompt, and run this command at exactly the same time as you apply power to the WRT to start it's boot cycle.

If the flashing is successful, the TFTP server should respond with a message similar to:

Transfer successful: 1537024 bytes in 6 seconds, 256170 bytes/s

and the WRT will be rebooted.

I tried 3 times before I got it........but it's fine now. I get into web config again.....seems to work fine (~5hrs).....shows ver 6.14

Hope this helps.....it did for me

Before flashing any firmware, I would suggest making sure you are running a Motorola firmware (preferably 5.13 or 4.03) and then reset that firmware back to "Factory Defaults"... After that, do a powerdown (1 min at least) and then power the router back up, THEN you can try to upgrade to another version of the firmware...

I don't know where the posted firmware came from (appears to be an Italian web site), but from the screen shots posted it looks genuine...

I tried this on mine and tftp said the transfer was successful but it was still dead. At what point do you do the tftp transfer? Do you do it right after a reset, power up or power up holding down reset? Also, do you connect to the LAN or WAN port when doing tftp?

Totally agree with WirelessGuy. tfpting the new firmware is pretty stupid, since this one is totally different from 4.xx and 5.xx releases, and that procedure doesn't work anymore. I guess nobody can't blame Motorola for that!

Hey, don't look at me, I'm NOT running that website! And yes, that firmware is the real one.

Can you compare your beta trx file with the leaked one and see if they are an exact match? Also is 6.14 the latest beta that is currently out there?

I ran a CRC32 match between the file from the web site listed at the beginning of this thread and of the same version beta that I have and they match. And the answer to your second question is "Yes".

I did a considerable amount of resetting.....to no avail

I came across that thread on an open wrt forum........so I tried it.

1.I set my static ip
2. went to rum...cmd....then ping 192.168.10.1......and got good response
3. still in cmd dos window...typed TFTP -i 192.168.10.1 PUT c:\temp\wr850.trx (I renamed file earlier) Note din't execute yet
4. I removed power plug from router........30 sec later I put power to it and then I immediately pressed enter to execute flash. From what I understand...you have to hit it during initial boot up of router.
5. I had to do it 3 times before it took.
6. I exited dos window....opened browser....went into web config.
I had wan port plugged to dsl modem.......port1 to computer.

again......hope this helps

WirelessGuy: Would you be so kind as to post CRC32/MD5/SHA1 sums for your official firmware version, just for reference? Thanks
