Economics

I would love to see a Pay-per-channel.
$1/channel for packages
$2/channel for custom, minimum 10 channels and not forced to take 'others' (like the gambling channel, the shopping channel, ...)

But with revenues from advertising, this model won't work unless another form can be generated. That is why they mix and match- economics of marketing and advertising. Sports get far more dollars in revenues (look at the ads!) then say, The Discovery Channel.
There are times where I far more enjoy a documentary or science program (with the kids) than watching some $10million contract player drop a ball.

I guess you guys didn't see CSPAN a few months ago or something. The cable companies testified in front of congress that al la carte pricing would cost the average customer more. Than packaging, remember that would tie up the phone lines. Oh today I want ESPN and CNBC, but during the month of DEC i don't want ESPN and CNBC, think about all the silly things that would happen, and as soon as you want like 10 channels a la carte it would be crazy. Plus the cost of coding each channel 150 codes or more, into a billing system. And each channel costs different amounts. It's just ridiculous. ESPN is getting Monday night football, could you imagine if Every Monday night people said i wanted espn and then tuesday called up and said hey i don't want espn. THis would be a billing nightmare.

Plus competition is bringing the price down for cable.
Plus who here doesn't want package pricing. Most of us here have High speed internet. So who wouldn't want package pricing.

The thing that really stands out is the installation and disconnection charges that Verizon has, they are quite a bit more expensive that cable.
Also I haven't seen a channel lineup for Long Island it has to be different to include MSG and Fox Sport Nets so you can see local sport teams along with the YES network.

Also im not sure but isn't Verizon's DVR it will not skip commercials???
