I agree. I would rather have the v4, knowing it already has the 2.0 firmware. Of course the v3 with 1.1 firmware can be upgraded, but this can be an irritating issue if the ISP doesn't want to comply per a request. Who needs that possible headache. It's nice to know that the v4 is a great modem while you are 1.1 and will be great when/if you are 2.0.

What did the salesman say was better about the SB5120?

One difference with the v3, is firmware. You don't know whether it will have the DOCSIS 1.1 or 2.0 firmware. The v4 only has a DOCSIS 2.0 firmware. Obviously important to people who are in a 2.0 network.

You probably should ask your router firmware question in the Linksys Forum. You will probably find more members there having experience with your particular router and the firmware versions.
