<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/588340"><b>draven</b></A> : Thanks for all the replies.<br><br>I ended up tipping the sofa delivery guys $5 each because they brought a rather large ssectionl in without so much as a nick in the doorframe or wall, assembled it and had it done in 10 minutes.<br><br>The appliance guys will be by tomorrow with the fridge, washer and dryer.  The washer and dryer have to go down a narrow set of stairs into the basement.  <br><br>I think if they hook everything up and keep off the walls, that will warrant a tip as well.<br><SMALL>--<br><B>Is BBR/DSLR down or is it your connection? What do you think would happen if he was your delivery guy next time? <br><br>When I got out of Highschool my friend managed a restaurant. I would deliver pizza on the weekend for him. I saw a lot of usual customers and I got tipped pretty well. One of my last deiveries I informed the customer it was my last day. He seemed sad and said " Let me know where you will be delivering for next..."<br>Like it was my career. <br>anecdotal. <br> </DIV>It may be horrible, but if they titled it "Delivery Fee", then I expect it to be given to the driver. How do I know he's not making it up? If a company is charging me 1.50 delivery fee, then they have basically forced me to pay for the delivery (then it's not free delivery anymore like they advertise). Why should I have to pay an additional 2.00 bucks? The movers don't really make that much, so tips are ALWAYS appreciated.  When we move an entire house full of goods for you in half a day(usually) then I don't see the problem in giving us some lovin.  You would be surprised at how few people even offer us drinks while we sweat it out, much less tips.]]></description>

For those working on longer installs or work, the offer of food and beverage isn't out of line, IMO. If I was doing a job for someone, wouldn't I be inclined to do my best if treated in a cordial manner through the offer of coffee or snacks? Hell yes.<br><br>I used to deliver to a Hell hole in Queens that required the yard people to get a fork truck and move materials so I could offload. They used to make me wait a half hour or more before they got around to helping me out. I started bringing in coffee & donuts one day. After that, they fairly tripped over themselves to help me as soon as I arrived. Coffee & donuts = cheap palm grease. ]]></description>

Seeing someone sweat for me really gets under my skin. <br><br>In any event the pizza guy always gets 5.00 and if I have it handy, the furniture movers usually get 20.00.<br><br>How many deliveries can they make thanklessly throughout their day. I dont look at it like a job they have already gotten paid for, I look at it like a job that sucks and from one person to another I appreciate what they have done. <br><br>I mean, why do we tip the garbage guys at christmas or our building maintenance man? They are already getting paid for their job, usually pretty good as well. Its because we appreciate them and want to show it. Or DONT appreciate and want to pretend we do. :)<br><br>In any event, if you think you should tip, then go ahead. Dont ask the internet if you should or shouldnt. Sometimes just saying thank you and that you appreciate their effort is good enough. <br><br>I had heating and a/c replaced earlier this year. It took two workers 14 hours to remove my old units and install the new ones, one of them had a freaking BROKEN LEG in a cast. The job cost me close to 4k but I know they arent going to see any of that so I bought them lunch and tipped them each 50.00. I appreciated their tireless efforts and the cuts and scrapes and sweat and wanted to let them know. <br><SMALL>--<br><A HREF="http://thisweekintech.com/">The ScreenSavers  PODCAST!
