Some truth there, but many local governments used the money to cover cost over-runs on crony contracts with kickbacks, or covered essential services DUE to shortfalls created by the latter. At least the community gets SOMETHING from this.
Also, you can bet your bottom dollar that if government in any form is involved, business gets its share. The anti-government competition people don't ever stop to think that government is owned by business, and they don't fart without approval from those with hands in their pockets. The whole 'less government' argument is piffle wrapped in a red herring: If it's Government, it's business.
