Absolutely, get the card cancelled and re issued ASAP. I am glad that you didn't leave info on the machine to enable them to issue a credit. That saves the scammers money, chargebacks cost them. It seems reasonable that not every rep is told about every fraud, but you would think that there would be a handy database that they could key the name in and find out.

The first Chase representative emphasized again and again that I should ask my husband if he knew anything about the charge, and even said it's probably not a fraud because it's so small! I said I've been fraudulently charged before by someone who just did a little on everyone's card. When I called back after finding that hundreds of others have had the same fraudulent charge, the next representative happily cancelled the #, but pretended to know nothing about Digital Age, and said she'd be mailing an affidavit for me to fill out and have notorized. As we are not the same Digital Age that is being mentioned in this forum, but also a victim of this fraud, here is what you need to know (and what we have discovered by our own research):


-- The charge on your credit or debit card is not from us, Digital Age Products. And you are not in our database for any purchases. We do not know, or have your credit card number or any of your personal information.
-- This charge is coming from a European merchant in the country of Cyprus. Through our own research, we have identified the merchant’s acquiring bank as SEB / Euroline of Sweden (»www.euroline.se/ or »swp2.vv.sebank.se/cgi-bin/pts3/p···lish.asp). As of October 12th, SEB has told us they have closed the merchant’s credit card processing down. SEB told us that they processed charges on this account from the beginning of September of 2005.
-- If you check your statement it says something like: Digital Age 8885298 Cyprus (all card holders who have called or e-mailed us have a similar number on their statement). MasterCard has informed us the full telephone number is 888-529-9842. THIS IS NOT DIGITAL AGE PRODUCTS’ TELEPHONE NUMBER. If you call this number, there will be a voicemail that will direct you to a web site: »www.da-support.com. FOR YOUR OWN SAFTEY, DO NOT FILL OUT ANY INFORMATION ON THIS WEB SITE.
-- Cardholders that have contacted us, have all had the same charge of $24.99
-- The cardholder has usually looked up the name Digital Age on the Internet and found our web site (sometime this has been done by your bank for you).Our name is Digital Age Products. Not Digital Age. And from our research, the merchant has been using the web domain »www.da-support.com.
-- You should know that we have checked the following systems of our online store (we brand audio products for MP3 players and computers):

-Our credit card processor and their fraud division
-Our own bank and the charges that flow through our account
-Our online e-commerce partner who handles our shopping cart and hosts our web site
-Our own sales history and inventory


All of these show up negative, and there is no sign or trace that this is coming from our systems, or that these systems have been violated. You should also know that the amount charged does not correlate with any products we sell and the shipping charges that may be incurred.

Finally, we have reported and filed a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Fraud Complaint Center (IFCC) regarding these incidents and reports from cardholders.

We are empathetic with your problem. You need to contact your credit card company, bank or credit union and deny the charge. We would also suggest that you may want to have the card cancelled as it has been compromised. We have no idea where all these names and credit card numbers have come from, although all the people that have contacted us have been American cardholders.

To this day, we have still been handling calls and e-mails, and according to the Swedish acquiring bank SEB, this will probably go on for up to four months, even with the “CYPRUS” merchant’s card processing being closed down on October 12th. If you have charges from this merchant after that date, we suggest you contact us, and we will help funnel this information to MasterCard and Visa.

if your line quotation is accurate then this scam has been elevated to a new and far more dangerous level. Up until now, I have not seen a post that describes an "on line" ACH transaction, all have been "off line" card not present type, merchant billing via the MC/Visa etc. system, even with debit cards.

Unless they are spoofing the type of transaction, which I doubt, in your case it appears to have been processed as an EFT "Electronic Funds Transfer". The above description indicates a Point of Sale cash withdrawal directly from your account, the money was removed at that time. It may or may not have required the use of a valid pin #, check with the bank. These scammers may have now set up a POS/ATM operation, as they are processed "on line" through a different system than credit type transactions. It is now possible that debit accounts are now being segregated, and subject to additional fraud via their increased inherent vulnerabilities.

That action puts you at an immediate risk for further fraud, by continuously withdrawing electronically all the remaining funds in your account via EFT. If you have other deposit accounts at that institution, and depending on your banks overdraft policy, it is possible for the criminals to overdraw that account also. Thereby putting a hold on those funds, until the issue is resolved.

You need to contact your bank immediately and have your account frozen, or at least prevent,
and/or reject any more EFT transactions, including overdraft, and make arrangements for any outstanding legitimate transactions. Also, your reporting obligations and Rights are different in respect to this. THE ELECTRONIC FUND TRANSFER ACT lists the regulations governing that transaction. In EFT cases you have to chase after your money as it has already transferred out of the account.

I have one reoccurring charge from my ISP each month (Earthlink) and I use my card once or twice a year at Sears. I pay for my gas with cash/checks as I don't have a gas card. I also will never own a debit card.

I already have a new card and both charges were reversed to the fraudulent chargers involved. The initial charge test didn't involve actual funds if you read my post as it was a test.

I have *never* used Amazon, PayPal or cardsystems so you should reformulate the speculation to that of the actual leak is from inside the Credit Companies, not outside as you are grasping at. :o

You are correct in that a debit card does not have the legal protection of a credit card. However, that transaction was processed thru the Visa or Mastercard system and there are fraud policies, and guaranteed liabilities in effect. Contact your bank to find out what the policy and procedure is for your card, and dispute the charge in writing. If they continue to not be helpful speak to your branch manager, and let us know.

Trouble is if this company is a front, flybynight, whatever (and with the number of people getting hit it is obviously a scam of some sort), then the 8 digits in that phone# cannot be assumed to be valid. It is most likely caused by one of the several well known security breaches at banks and credit card processing companies.

Unless there is rock solid proof that a company is involved with this scam, company information should not be posted. The obvious reason is to not falsely accuse the innocent without any evidence.

I was a victim of one of these online thefts; I take great care to protect my card number, and it still was used by a criminal. Many people have never used their credit card online, and those credit card numbers were also used. You might want to read up on this in the other thread.

This is exactly the problem. What gets me is the non-chalant attitude some of the banks have about the whole situation. Meanwhile while we're here trying to get to the bottom of the scam the banks don't have any problems with charging interest on these bogus charges while the charge is investigated.

When are they going to get off their lazy arses and either catch the criminals and/or fix the system???

There is a leak inside the credit card system somewhere, something that allows card numbers to be tested fast enough and without detection. Credit card numbers are simply not long enough and as you know, the "security" code on the back, and the persons full billing address, is not always required by every vendor putting through a charge, thus, these details are not required. Full Stop. I'm not even sure the name is required.

So all you need (as a bad-guy vendor with e-access to bank billing) is valid numbers and expiry dates. If you really need something else like a zip code, perhaps the DECLINED transaction returns "DECLINED - ZIP INVALID" so then you have a good number, and the problem is reduced to just having to guess the ZIP.

I'd bet there are weaknesses within the huge card processing industry that allow a bank of valid numbers and expiry dates to be built up, without detection, and then the fraudsters electronically charge 1000s of people at once, transfer the money away, and leave their fake-vendor vehicle empty for the slow bank fraud departments to find and close. I contacted my credit union and they have cancelled my debit card for this account. I have never used this debit card for anything other than actual hands on purchases including Safeway, Albertson's and various other grocery stores / drug stores. Never for anything online. That is a typical MO of how some of these frauds operate. IMO you are on the right track and your card was tested thru Coastalwave with the $1 charge.

My guess is that Coastalwave's merchant account was hacked or compromised. The scammers will usually hack them on weekends, and run hundreds of tests to validate cards. Since you are an interested party you may want to call them
»www.coastalwave.net/contact.php and enquire about the test on your card. I would not be surprised if that was the case.

Did your bank give you any contact info for the Digital Age charge ?? a phone number maybe or address?. Cyprus seems to be a favorite scam location.

As already posted, both KCSOFTLLC and Trouble Bubble are under the umbrella of the Devbill.com Credit Card scam operations.

It looks like someone is testing the card and if the Auth goes through, then the other companies hit the card for their charges. Or is it just unrelated? One company is apparently legit.
