Steve : Morning all, feeling fine after my 6AM wakeup call :-)

It was a tiring day, and we didn't really do anything. I flew in at around noon, got to campus at around two. I met my Microsoft buddy Eric, and made the rounds of the conference center. All the MVP Leads (Microsoft folks who manage the various product/technology areas) were there, as well as some MS software demonstartions, but there weren't any that I was particularly interested in.

During this couple of hours, they had food out for us, and by far the most interesting thing was the fountain of chocolate. Five tiers or so tall, chocolate poured out the top and showered its way down, and we dipped marshmallows, strawberries, and other things into the cascading chocolate. It was very cool.

We got bussed over to Qwest Field for dinner, but this was a Keystone Cops operation. They apologized and said it wouldn't happen again: Microsoft has some fantastic event planners who really know how to run something like this.

As a side note: there are around 3000 MVPs, but not all of them are here - I think that we're at maybe 1700 or so. That's still a lot of people to corral.

I had customer issues this morning so am running late: I gotta catch my bus. Will try to post later.

Steve
--
Stephen J.
Link Logger : Well today's $64,000 question would be 'where's the bus?' And I'm sure you will hear about that from just about everyone here, but for one place we were going to we waited almost a hour for a bus and then took a cab, but then of course that turned into an adventure all its own and I'll wait to tell that story in court, but needless to say me and another fellow were more then just a little late for the regional diner tonight, which by the way was a great BBR reunion and of course a BBR person was the big winner tonight, but I'll let him tell that story.

This morning I went to the Museum of Flight as I heard it was pretty good and the number and range of aircraft is impressive, which it truly was. They have a couple of my favorite aircraft, SR-71 Blackbird (what can you say about this aircraft as everything about it is either beautiful and/or amazing), A-4 Skyhawk (nimble little bugger with a big punch), F-4 Phantom (proof if you put big enough engines on a brick, it will fly or the best way to convert JP4 to a lot of noise and smoke) and the concord (what a way to fly). Tons of other aircraft in a really nice setting as you can get much closer to them then say at the Smithsonian. The part I wasn't expecting was the history and the Boeing story which was most interesting and very well done. If you get the chance and are an aviation buff, then I would really recommend the trip. There was one little adventure coming back, but lets just say it was typical of the transportation issues we seem to be having here and leave it at that.

Today was just registration and the regional diners, so nothing much to report, except lots of old acquaintances where renewed and new ones made. This is not the place to be shy or reserved as there are far too many interesting people to meet. Every person here has earned their battle stars/scars and is willing to share their experiences and a good laugh. So you meet all sorts of people with different skill sets and from different countries, backgrounds, etc which opens your eyes to different issues, solutions, tools, etc which is great. Microsoft is a huge company with lots of products and it really shows when you meet all sorts of MVP's. Whats amazing is security is actually a large group as I think there are now over 90 security MVPs (little over 20 are here, but we still miss CJ).

Again have I mentioned exactly how much I hate wireless networks at hotels, hello potential victims. I met one fellow this morning in the lobby and I don't know if he was an MVP or not but we had a great conversation about wireless networks as this guy really knew his stuff about existing standards and where future standards were going and why, so needless to say I came away from that chance encounter a little wiser. The big advantage to the impending N standard is the ability to focus beams, so for example in an aircraft it would reduce the reflection off the sides of the aircraft which are currently a huge issue with the current omni-directional standards. We also talked bit about what is after N, which was very interesting as the sine wave could be in trouble as they are thinking of moving to spike type transmissions so power can be much lower, but effectiveness much higher as noise isn't as big a factor. It was obvious that this guy was connected and involved and very interesting.

Breakfast is at the Hotels tomorrow, but who the h3ll has breakfast at 6:00am (OK Steve is one of those sick and demented morning people), as I thought I was doing good to be up at 8:30am this morning to go to the Museum. I'm usually just going to bed at 6:00 am, so this week is going to kill me.

OK I'm not the official photographer anymore as the only thing that is official is my JasJar sucks when taking pictures and other people here have much better cameras so I'll leave picture taking to them, but attached are some pics from the Museum (which I took with my other camera). The other thing I found out today is Blake is way to big to get into an F-18 cockpit as apparently all those pilots are little skinny guys.

CJ I took a picture of the Apollo Command Module 007 that your Dad likely knows very well :).

Blake
--
Vendor: Firewall Logging Software »www.SonicLogger.com - SonicWall and 3Com »www.LinkLogger.com - Linksys, Netgear and Zyxel
<TABLE WIDTH=95% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">
