usr 8054 to 5450 mod!!!

Hello,

First of all, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Sukhorukov Andrew , I'm currently 20 years old and I'm studying a lawer at the Modern State Academy, Russia. Since I was a kid I always took things apart to see how they work. Back then people called this "breaking things", because usually after that they didn't work anymore
USR8054 is my first router, I bought it on Ebay a week ago (19.09.2005). It was very expensive for me as I'm a student, so I would like to to get all from it...

Ok, lets start.
The first thing i've noticed in router menu was the old firmware, so I went to USR website to get a new version of the firmware and found on google.com that the firmware is a ARJ archeive. So I decided to unARG it to get some information about OS which router uses. The unARJ file named NML.MEM was opend with WinHex editor and I was suprised by the fact that it consists of main bootloader code and HTML which used in router menu. After some inestigation I've found that router was originnally made by Global Sun Technology Inc and based on ThreadX OS. Also it originnaly comes with telnet, AP, Bridge support which I cannot find in USR web interface. Finally I made a modified firmware, which can transform your existing 8054 router to 5450! The firmware was tested on two 8054 rourers and works fine. After reflashing Lan will be inaccessible. You should access the new 5450 router with wifi connection and manually configure.

Now I planned to modify D-Link 624+ firmware but I don't have the hardware to make it. Any help are welcome!

Thi is the main problem of the current version of the firmware. the address will be 0.0.0.0 so you can't access the router from lan or wan ports, but you can login using wi-fi and manually set the needed address to the router.
You can anytime flash the router back using save mode...

Before I trash my router, what Wi-Fi IP will it assign to the interface? I take it DHCP will be down.

Hi,

As I said there is a small problem. After reflashing with modified firmware the router will have 0.0.0.0 ip on both lan and wan. The problem can be simply resolved by logging in to the router with wi-fi using USR remote control utility (which you can find inside rar archeive with flash)and changing default ip to whatever you want (standart is: 192.168.123.254). Now I'm working on this bug.

Thanks.

This modification is not condoned by USRobotics. The company does not support or suggest the use of any firmware other than that released for each individual product. Only the official firmware updates available at »www.usr.com/support are authorized. Use of any other firmware will result in any and all warranties being rendered null and void.

I've used the modified firmware for a week, the router works fine. Anyway as I said before you can anytime upload original usr 8054 firmware to the modified router and I don't think that you'll loose the warranty when came to the usr support with official firmware. Anyway, use the firmware at your own risk. AS-IS.

Привет!
Что именно за модификации ты делал (если не секрет)?
И можешь пожалуйста дать потестировать новый - изменённый firmware?
Translation:
What kind of modifications did you do?
Can you, please, give me that new firmware?

This could be the answer... some kind of opensource (if possible) project to solve problems with the usr8054. If usr can't do it, people around the world can do it themselves.

Maybe you should start looking for programmers who are interested in helping you with coding etc...

Hello,

I have an idea to make my own firmware for the router which
will give me all advantages of usr 8054 + 5450 firmwares (AP mode, repeater mode, router, telnet, ssh, https, 100mw transmitting power, console port)but I don't have enought time and hardware to make it. But it can be possible with your help =)

As I said any help are welcome! =)

Hello again,

The router uses Brecis MSP2007 chipset (MIPS32 CPU, 170Mhz, 2 MAC, PCI, 55 GPIO)

Hello,

I've searched around and cannot find a place to download this modded 8054 to 5040 mod. Please let me know.

that's because ktulu want to sell it and not to share it.. The mod is not something difficult to understand as 8054 use the 5450 AP module with different interface configuration due to LAN router implementation...

I thought there was originally an attachment. Could have been removed.

Hi Ktulu,

Does your firmware support MD5 CHAP authentication?

My ISP uses MD5 CHAP authentication and I can't use my USR8054.
