UPDATE: I purchased it today and it doesn't see the dead hdd(the bios sees it but not spinrite). anyone have this problem and have a work-around?

IME, anytime the bios saw the drive, spinrite would - unless it was a RAID setup, in which case, you had to remove the drives singularily from the RAID to run spinrite, then put them back together.
