anon : I got mine to work by following pliu428's suggestion. I had the same problems with the MR814 v2 and the Westell 6100. Directly connected, the computer would work, but through the router it was sluggish and intermittent. I directly connected the Westell to one of the computers and entered through IE »192.168.1.1, loging in with username: admin
password: password
From there I got the DNS numbers:
192.168.1.1
192.168.1.1
Then I used a second computer hooked up to the router (I'm sure you could just unplug the modem and plug into the router) and accessed the router through IE »192.168.0.1, typed in my user name and password. I think the defaults are the same as the modem if you've not changed them. Under basic settings I selected the 'Use these DNS servers' button and entered the two DNS numbers. Click apply and check the router status to make sure the domain name server shows the new DNS's under the internet port settings. Unplug and shut everything off. turn it all back on, starting with the modem and waiting for it to sync up.

I also changed the modem's mac address to the address of the initial computer used to set up the verizon account before I did all of the above. It didn't solve the problem, so it may be an unnecessary step.

N3XT : ok you guys i have the same netgear router and after reading the posts i was just screwing around in my router and i know the solution (dont know why it works but it obviously is the solution). Ok first you want to upgrade your router firmware to the fullest eventhough it should work without an upgrade and then after taht you go to "Basic Settings" and where it says "Use these DNS Servers" selec that and type in crap like 192.168.0.1 and in the spots below it type in 192.168.0.5 and then hit apply settings. Now after that is done open up a new browser window and tpye in a website and wait till it says Page cannot be displayed or something like webadress cannot be found. Now that u did that go back to the router settings and click on "Basic Settings" again and then under "Domain Name Server (DNS) Address" click on "Get automaticaly from ISP" and hit apply settings again...and this is it you guys you will be able to visit everything now.! and nomore of that pagecannot be displayed bullshyt.

Luppy : I was going to say ditch the netgear wizard and enter the settings manually via 192.168.1.1.

Set the MTU to 1492. Now that you've put the modem in bridge mode and reset the router, make certain that you don't have two firewalls enabled. Make sure to click apply after changes. I noticed sometimes these routers don't take the changes on the first try.
You are PPPoE if you had to enter a verizon username & password for log-in the first time you set up your dsl modem. Also, if you are in an x-bell atlantic service area, then you are pppoe.
A thought. Have you done a tweak test via this site? Might be able to tweak further now that you have the router and modem configured correctly. Far as speed tests go, I'd use the ones here on the site and do a half dozen each from the desktop and the laptop to get an average. Oh, and if you haven't been doing so, reboot your computer after you make changes in the router so the modem can adjust to the changes as well. On the WAN setup section, put a check in the "connect automatically" box. On the LAN IP setup section, put a check in the "use router as DHCP server". All this means is that your router will assign IP addresses to machines on your LAN. My router is set to 192.168.0.1, and I use 192.168.0.33 for starting IP - 192.168.0.37 for ending IP (33-37 because I have five computers that may be connected all at once).

If your speeds are still flaky I don't know short of trying different firmware. I haven't read up enough on that particular model but I have installed them for clients without incident.
I have on occasion had to return a couple of wireless routers for various reasons such as some of them wouldn't hold their settings, and others would drop the internet connection intermittently. I'd say if your problems persist change it for a new router.
