U.S. Supreme court ruling states...

that it is okay to record TV shows as long and the recording is not used to make a profit.

Sure the ruling was from 1984, but shouldn't it still apply?

And, didn't they rule that once a show airs that they had no rights on how to control people's recording of said programs?

Well its ok to record but not to edit said show and post it for all else to access. Just like movies. Its ok to record them on to a dvd or tape and back them up... But legally you cant take a dvd you bought, and offer a public showing of the movie and charge 1 dollar to get in or money without permission from company. Even offering a free showing to a large mass of people is prohibited. With tv, commericals are ripped and that is what angers the tv stations the most. The shows are A) being uploaded for no profit but also their advertisements are removed B) personal recording isnt giving it to the world but for private viewing only..
