$7.95 a day is highway robbery

The company I work for has flown me places over a 100 different times to almost all states in USA. I have noticed that about 70% have free wifi and about 30% are pay.

Of the 30% that are pay almost all try and charge a flat rate of around $6.95 to $12.95 for a 24 hour period. When I'm waiting 2 hours for a flight do I really want to pay $6.95 for 2 hours???

This is despite the fact that the company I work for would re-imberse me for the expense however I refuse to give them any money. If they would institute/allow a "Per hour" charge and let me deduct it straight out of my Paypal account they might get some money but for this flat rate stuff, no dice.

The most annoying one is a WIFI carrior called "concourse".

Can't we just use our laptops offline for a few hours?

We could. But if the airline wants to offer it for free, wouldn't it be nicer to have a connection available?

That'd be nice, but a)not *that* many people have PayPal accounts (there are a lot, but not enough to make it worthwhile), and b)charging that low a rate would be unprofitable for any wireless provider. Think: $12/day would be about $.50 an hour. Once you get that eaten up with PayPal/merchant account fees, you're talking a low return even before you factor in the overhead.

Last time I was in LAX though they did have kiosks where you could pay a couple of dollars for a 10-minute block, cash or charge. It was nice for checking hotel directions and e-mail before I caught my connection. Wireless I doubt they could make that cheap.

T-Mobile already charges $6.00 per hour for their HotSpot service.
