anon : There are some great reviews of the all-you-can-eat plans on NerdVittles.com. They like axvoice.com for international and TelaSIP.com for U.S. You can use either provider on a BYOD basis with no up front costs and no long term contracts or "funny business."

dipswich : Do your homework before getting an unlimited plan for Asterisk. Most providers won't let you "BYOD" with an unlimited plan due to the possibility for abuse. This is one area where Broadvoice is innovative.

So, for an unlimited VoicePulse plan with Asterisk, you would have to use a VoicePulse-locked ATA (even if you provide it) and an FXO card in the Asterisk box.

You may also want to shop for a DID phone number and your outgoing separately. Unless you're consistently using more than 1200 minutes per month, VoipJet/Voxee/IAX.cc for outgoing and My Phone Company/VoicePulse Connect/Broadvoice/IAX.cc for incoming can also be good options.

MrTwister : I've read the reviews on BroadVoice, VoicePulse,
AxVoice and am up in the air on who to go with.

I've got an Asterisk box setup, with SoftPhones, Uniden UIP1868 5.8Ghz.

Broadvoice has a great price, what seems like great features, and a virtual number is 1.99/mo, and has a 2000 min softcap on unlimited residential calling.

VoicePulse also has great prices, about the same great features, and the virtual number is 4.99/mo and a softcap of roughly 4000 min unlimited residential.

AxVoice is about the same, might be cheaper one of the bunch, appears to have free virtual number. Downside, not LNP in Ohio, or so their map shows. They've got numbers, but not sure why they can't do LNP.

I'm kind of confused, but is they 2000/4000 minutes outgoing, incoming, or both?

I was going to try the small BroadVoice (100 min plan) to get my Asterisk box setup, and if things work, switch to the unlimited State ($9.99/mo), or Unlimited Nation ($19.99/mo).

Also would paying the $10/$20 bucks to get a 2 seat license for the g729 codec help in any of these.

Thanks any input on these would be greatly appreciated.

I had looked at SunRocket, but it seems like everyday there's some negative feedback on these guys.

fortissimo : There is a big "if", for BYOD plan claiming "no contract" and can "cancel any time".

The first "if", is that if you purchased a device from Voxilla, that came with a 1 month free coupon / vouchure, and if you do cancel within that month, then they still will charge you beyond the 1st 500 minutes, despite the coupon said nothing of that sort, and it was an inclusive FREE month of service. So that FREE month with a value of up to $39.99, well, you won't get that value for free. I fought and got them to agree not to charge me, a 120 minute charge of $4.50 or so.

A second "if", is that even if you ordered a BroadVoice device, you are also bound with that 500 minutes, should you cancel within the first month, and have to pay the extra minutes.

Some people just lowered it down to the Lite BYOD plan for $5.95 for the 2nd month, and then cancel it, to avoid the problem above. It shows how contradictory their FREE offer means, on Voxilla's store (and possibly others).

I found a moble number in spain that I connected to one time out of about 20 attempts. It connected from POTS without fail.

The BYOD plans are a great deal, there is no contract, you may cancel at any time.

I have never used broadvoice with a broadvoice provided adapter

For BYOD users, I highly recommend using the download config method over the manual config method, unless you dont mind tweaking.

I'm wonder who has this service, or even a different package but from the same service, and how you like it?

I've been on the $10 in-state plan for eleven months now. In that time, I've had two days of downtime, during the infamous "meltdown" that occurred after BroadVoice parted ways with Global Crossing. For a few weeks after that event, voice quality was somewhat inconsistent (and generally poor)...it has since recovered to it's previous high level.

Apart from those incidents, the service has been rock solid for me, and a great bargain. I am a self-provisioned BYOD user (Sipura devices primarily) and love the flexibility that Broadvoice offers. Voice quality is excellent, and the features I depend upon work great.

I wouldn't recommend Broadvoice to most people, due to their uneven and highly unorthodox customer service practices. Lately they have been enforcing the fine print in their TOS in a rather hostile manner. Still, they have been a great match to my needs.
