Re: The U.S. Flag code: Standards of respect Thanks, tke711. I had forgotten a lot of these rules since I left the Navy.
Even though I'm a civilian now, I still want to salute the flag in the the military fashion. Is this wrong? If so, I'll salute it properly. |

I think you have to be in uniform. Otherwise it is a hand over the heart. I could be wrong though. -- Ja Da. |

Thank you, Sydney078! For me, it just doesn't feel right saluting in the civilian way. I'm SO glad to hear this. It's just another perk of having been in the military. |

Interesting ... MAYBE some should review their avatars.
And no flames please ... I didn't write the code. -- Those that don't learn from history, are doomed to repeat it. |

No response to the above at all ?
Or is it dinner time ?
Or are you all busily changing your avatars ?
Or should not ALL the rules apply ?
I'd really be very interested in hearing from those that were so boisterous about following "The Rules"
What say you ? -- Those that don't learn from history, are doomed to repeat it. |

| Hey ... if that's what you think ... so be it, and your point is ? If it's ok for the CIA to do it's ok for me ? [text was edited by author 2001-09-18 20:52:49] |

MikePremium,Mod join:2000-09-17 Pittsburgh, PA | I think they mean something like don't write on your flag flying outside on your porch. |

FredT0 join:2001-08-27 Denville, NJ | I doubt it ... It's not in the section marked DISPLAYING THE FLAG OUTDOORS ... it's in the section marked STANDARDS OF RESPECT -- Those that don't learn from history, are doomed to repeat it. |

 | reply to FredT0 The code is the guide for all handling and display of the Flag. It doesn't impose penalties for misuse of the flag. Actions not specifically included in the Code may be deemed acceptable as long as proper respect is shown. -- Rome did not create a great empire by having meetings. FredT0 join:2001-08-27 Denville, NJ | No argument. I was just curious how if at all Avatars or other symbols for the flag played into this. I think Sydney set me straight. -- Those that don't learn from history, are doomed to repeat it. |
