Re: Need to switch between Interleave and FastPath? I'm getting my connection switched to FastPath (most likely today) through the help of Debbie on the Verizon Direct forum. Here are my stats:
Latency: Interleaved Relative Capacity [%]: 31 39 Noise Margin [dB]: 19.5 24.6 Transmit Signal Power [dBm]: 16.5 12.2 Attenuation [dB]: 47.8 29.8 Bit Rate [kb/s]: 1787 447
I have consistent 50-55ms pings to my gateway currently, and hoping to cut that down. I'll report back on how much of a difference the change makes. Stupid question: is there any way of telling if I could swing a 3Mb provisioning based on these numbers? I'm not sure how far from the CO I am - but my guess would be nearing 16-18,000 ft, in which case I think I'm far outside the range. Do my statistics jive with being that far away?
Thanks! |

nozol join:2008-08-25 Stockbridge, MI | I guess I'll just wait and see where I am at when this FastPath change is done, and try to make the 3Mb jump if my stats stay acceptable. I've called trying to get 3 meg service before, but Verizon tells me that they can't do it. Then again they told me for over a month that I couldn't get service at all, and my 1.5/384 line has been rock solid. I think lackluster phone support is to blame, but that's a discussion for a different thread. At least the Verizon Direct forum has helpful people.
Thank you! |

nozol join:2008-08-25 Stockbridge, MI | Alright, doesn't look like I can get 3Mb, I spoke with Verizon for 2+ hours yesterday and they couldnt provide me the service. I went through a bunch of supervisors and conference calls with DSL Billing and DSL Tech Support.
Anyway, I was switched to FastPath today on my 1.5/384 line. Here's my resulting line stats:
Latency: Fast Relative Capacity [%]: 33 39 Noise Margin [dB]: 20.5 25.0 Transmit Signal Power [dBm]: 16.5 12.2 Attenuation [dB]: 47.5 29.5 Bit Rate [kb/s]: 1789 447
Average ping to my gateway has now been a pretty consistent 35ms. 20ms isn't too bad, about what I was expecting, and well worth it. No noticed speed decrease on speed tests or sustained downloads.
Thanks guys! |

1 edit | You margin of 20dB on both sides is still great! Try the Verizon Direct forum on this site and see if they are able to turn up your speed, as you have more than enough line capacity to take it. Be sure to post up your line stats that you posted above so that they can see them, and if your exchange can handle the extra speed, they should turn your speed up. |

nozol join:2008-08-25 Stockbridge, MI | Are they able to adjust speed? I know they told me that they didnt have access to the same tools that their phone support does. I know 3Mb comes out of the CO, but the 2hr runaround on the phone yesterday basically left me with the impression that even though my line stats have a good shot at handling the 3Mb service, apparently it can't be done. I don't know what else would stop me from getting the service, but maybe they have something in the system where if your footage from the CO >= X, then you are SOL
Thanks! |
