| Well Series1 don't have network capabilities which explains why they can't do this.
DirectTV TiVo's are network capable from a hardware level, but DirectTV refuses to enable the network features of them in software because DirectTV wants people to buy their new DVRs instead of TiVos. People have hacked the DirecTiVos to enable these features.

Forget these new services... TiVo to Go, On Demand Programming, etc. There needs to be an HD capable TiVo box out already. Manufactureres of cable boxes have already beat them to the game, i.e. Motorola and Scientific Atlanta. Yes, they may not have all the functionality of TiVo. It has bare bones functionality but they at least they are HD capable and can record 2 shows sent analog or digital at once. And by the time TiVo gets to market I'm sure those cable boxes will have matching functionality. |

@wickesfurniture.com | Cable HD and digital boxs have the advantage of closed hardware. They will not open the spec to Tivo and will not share the profits in a joint venture.
I am in the process of replacing my SA 8000 PVR with a MythTV box. The cable box is slow, the interface is horrible, the remote layout is non-intuitive and usually needs two hands. The cable company in my case can't get the schedule correct were as the Tivo schedule is rarely wrong. The two tuners was not enough to off set the problems for me so I am ditching it. |

Actually Comcast made a deal with TiVo to offer TiVo software on the Motorola and SA boxes that Comcast uses. It should be available in 2006.
Also in 2006, TiVo will be offering a cablecard HD TiVo.

Who Cares!
Only a handful of people are watching a handful of channels that actually broadcast in HD. TiVo will come around when it becomes necessary, but the selling point "supports HD" is not currently worth the price of the R&D involved. |
