Ok, back again with new ieee**** and rtl8081**** untarred and installed. The latest rtl8081-1 untarred to rtl8081-0 just like the previous one and I had to delete the lines referring to slot_scan again, so I'm wondering if there's anything new about these. Anyway, still no joy so here's the info you asked for the other day:

brian@thefergies:~$ sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
brian@thefergies:~$ sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid easynote
brian@thefergies:~$ sudo iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

sit0 no wireless extensions.

wlan0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"easynote"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.432 GHz Access Point: 00:00:00:00:00:00
Bit Rate=11 Mb/s
Retry:on Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Link Quality=49/100 Signal level=-103 dBm Noise level=-205 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

And 30 seconds later:

brian@thefergies:~$ sudo iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

sit0 no wireless extensions.

wlan0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"easynote"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.427 GHz Access Point: 00:00:00:00:00:00
Bit Rate=11 Mb/s
Retry:on Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Link Quality=50/100 Signal level=-81 dBm Noise level=-206 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

So here I am asking for more help, please. Thanks again for all the time/effort given, really appreciate it.
brian

Wrap output in [ code ] and [ /code ] tags (without spaces)...

Also, post dmesg and lsmod output... it seems very ndiswrapper-ish.
