To be honest I didn't think it would, having spent a lot of hours muddling my way along. So, what I had left were two vsmon files and two VSDATANT.sys files.
Telly Boot : Thanks Iggy, any help you can give would be appreciated. In both cases ( installing Ver 6.1 or 4.5) the installation went fine, but then it wouldn't run after configuring itself and the reboot. The tray icon was a yellow X on red, and the error message came up: " System error, please restart". So it installs, it just won't run, and in the meantime there is no internet access. I am going to try to remove the files while in safe mode. I have been following the step-by-step instructions above to do the clean uninstalls, but that hasn't cured the problem. (The reason that I felt that upgrading was a mistake for me is that I am behind a router, so I could probably have continued with version 2.6... It did a terrific job for three or four years.)
--
Dawn,n,The time when men of reason go to bed. (Ambrose Bierce.)

Telly Boot : I got the same error after installing 4.5. I have done the step by step Clean Uninstall of 4.5 and have exactly the same problem. It shows 'system error', and no data to/from router. I am curious as to how it can block the LAN so effectively after the program is carefully removed... Is the VSDATANT.sys the file I have to remove? What is its function? I renamed the vsmon files IGGY1 and IGGY2 to try the Zone Labs workaround, but still couldn't remove VSDATANT due to the sharing/in use violation. I will have to call it a day. I will have to try safe mode tomorrow,
--
Dawn,n,The time when men of reason go to bed. (Ambrose Bierce.)

Telly Boot : OK I am still stuck. I appear to have the VSDATANT.SYS file even after clean uninstall, but I can't delete it since it is in use or shared. I can rename the vsmon.exe file as in the NT workaround given, but this has no effect on deleting the VSDATANT file. I tried installing the ZAF 4.5 version from a few years ago, but still get the same system error message. I have to admit that this has became a major problem, and since the uninstall defaults to the ZA uninstall I believe that I have followed all procedures. I note that the ZA Uninstall leads to loss of Access help page has had 38,000 views.
--
Dawn,n,The time when men of reason go to bed. (Ambrose Bierce.)

Zone Alarm upgrade problem...

Telly Boot : I unfortunately decided to upgrade to the latest ZA free version (6.1.37....?), having been running version 2.6... or so for about four years. My second error was deciding to install over this old version, reason: I had quite a few settings on it. I should have gone for a clean install and worked through the settings afterward. So..it would not run after installation, and the message given was: 'restart; system error': unfortunately this didn't help so after a few attempts I uninstalled it . I used the ZA uninstall, which may have been my third error. This has left my desktop machine unable to communicate with the LAN/router, although obviously my laptop is getting through by wireless just fine. I have checked everythng several times, including checking NIC, cables, registry cleaning, etc. I appears that some remnant of ZAF is left over and this is blocking me. I note that ZA warns against installing over an old version, and I should have taken the hint. Any clues or tips? I am going to try downloading it to this machine, putting it on a CD, walking it over the the other machine and re-installing it. I'm running Win2K so can't use system restore.
--
Dawn,n,The time when men of reason go to bed. (Ambrose Bierce.)
