Israel

very stupid move

Its not a "security" thing,
Purely economics and political cronyism

In my opinion the public will not stand for this
and the politicians will have to push this genie back
into its bottle

More than likely, they want to control the ability to make overseas phone calls for security reasons, such as palestinians working/living in Israel. It's not a matter of the public "standing" for this, since all israelis stand together when it comes to the collective security of the country, just as all israelis have to do a 2 year stint in the security forces (army) as psrt of their duty as a citizen, and, can be called up for service if need be.

While Israel IS a democracy, they have learned the value of banding together when needed, since they have been surrounded by implacable enimies since Israel was formed.
