 | Shaw block ssh by fingerprinting? Anyone know if shaw is fingerprinting traffic to block stuff like ssh, vnc, or ftp on non-standard ports, at least on some of their service levels? I have a need to set some of this stuff up, and was going to do it in the 5-digit port range, for when I'm not at home and forget to bring a file with me. However it seems like the connection never gets through. Does anyone know if shaw is using traffic fingerprinting routers to block this stuff? |

 | reply to conanford Use Shields Up from grc.com to test if your ports are open and your servers responding.
net2ftp.com is a good way to check your FTP server if you don't have a remote shell account to help you test by yourself. |

 | reply to conanford I use VNC all the time - the server where you work probably has the outgoing ports firewalled so you can't use these services from within the corporate network. |
