It's gonna cost BellSouth $150 dollars to wire up each home to a fiber optic network. I believe Verizon is paying something like 1200 dollar per home. BellSouth doesn't want to spend 1200.

That's why BellSouth is relatively more profitable than their competitors. Too conservative? I'd say so. But that's they're style... They also still have more fiber deployed than anyone..
And they just asked a couple of high-level execs to take early retirement did a restructuring (ie, thinning down.) They'll most likely do more layoffs next year at the lower levels of management. All this to prepare themselves for a merger with SBC next year? Could be...
