I usually (when I remember) use the debit card for exactly the same reasons. Even though it's a debit card, I still get a little extra protection.

That's exactly why I like to use CC payments. eBay and PayPal resolution is a PITA. I called PayPal. They can't reverse the transaction - fine.

I asked them to tell me how to change my default payment type from bank account to credit card - there is none.

Why not? Because that's what's printed in the user agreement.
