Re: Bit Torrent Uploads Being Disconnected Yes limited service, right now I have a few torrents in queue and many with over 50+ peers, been waiting an hour now and still haven't connected to any peers. This is just ridiculous as pre-throttling days connections were almost instantaneous. Again this has nothing to do with seed stats but rather just connecting to damn peers in order to download something. |

Well on the bright side, the RCN forum hasn't seen this much action in almost 6+ months |

There are no rules / restrictions or anything configured on the system to affect your downstream ability... Thats funny because now i cannot get an outbound connection at all. Also Azureus is telling me i am firewalled so it has to be on your end. RCN is blocking my ports i just know it. i have
reset modem and router changed ports 17 times
this is really pissing me off. Its been almost 2 months now. You guys have got to fix it or stop "tweaking the network" ie: blocking ports, throttleing, ect we are stasrting to thing you are telling stories if i wanted that i would go to the library and check out a book marked "FICTION" that is waht i am getting here i am stopping short of calling you a liar but soon i will |

 | reply to rcnman done thanks for the quick reply |

to fall back to a cliche` "If its not broke, dont fix it" WHY did you mess with tweaks when everthing was working fine? |

 | well DUH! now it works without the router |
|
 | it worked for less that 5 minutes then went back to being firewalled so its not me its RCN |

nozzer join:2004-06-25 Waltham, MA | reply to LocutusBorg Tried another client, e.g. uTorrent? I've checked and mine is happily down/uploading - it just completed a 400M file in about 15 minutes. Taskbar on the bottom says "network OK" too. |
|
 | i have not tried another client, yet i put anothe NIC in and filtered it to my home network/router and am directly connected to the modemand it was working for a few mins then the NAT green turned red and said firewalled |
|
 | uTorrent no workie either same prob |
|
 | I am on the phone with RCN rite now
the guy emailed this to me
RCN proactively manages it's network to ensure both service availability and performance are maximized. In order to support the recently launched new speed initiatives and future product initiatives we have completed some tuning specifics surrounding the traffic on our network. As we focus our priorities on higher speed tiers, we have addressed the priority of outbound P2P data. Outbound P2P traffic has been prioritized to ensure optimum service levels on both the downstream and upstream data paths for RCN users. This prioritization will not have any impact on your ability to download data using the more popular peer 2 peer programs, however transmissions without downloading or "seeding" of data will be de-prioritised
RCN's policy is not to infringe on our customers' use of the peer 2 peer applications to download data, but given the high upstream configurations of faster tier products, we intend to manage the manner in which customers are seeding outside of our network.
"Yes the amount of bandwidth being sent off-net as it relates to P2P is being slightly managed. Because of the high amount of upstream capacity and forthcoming product upgrades we really had to invoke some changes. " Because of the default installation behavior of P2P programs and how after installation most users don't even know they are sharing files it presents a problem. Some metrics we were seeing upstreams with 90% of overall traffic being P2P.
this is the problem
however transmissions without downloading or "seeding" of data will be de-prioritized. |

pilotsr join:2002-08-08 Twentynine Palms, CA | Figures they would have one of those scripts ready to read from. I just downloaded a few torrents, was able to download but not upload which is an improvement. Speeds were ok just took some time to connect.
Any word on when they are releasing their new tiers? I've been with them for few years now I'm willing to try it out on the new tier and see how all goes.
And one question for Jason. Are you keeping it the way it is or do you still intend to work out the bells and whistles when you get your firmware upgrades? Also will this be limited to just torrents or will you guys start playing big brother with other P2P programs such as LimeWire, BearShare, and the likes? |

jpjacobPremium join:2001-08-02 New York, NY | reply to LocutusBorg Similarly, my clients (Azureus & uTorrent) say "Nat OK" but trackers all see me as firewalled.
I tested for open ports at GRC successfully.
So there's something getting between my BT client and the tracker regardless of upload or download. It's RCN...
