Re: [E-mail] Comcast Spam Blockers are AWFUL

I've concluded that the "report as spam" feature on Comcraps web-based email reader is just a placebo. It allows Comcast to claim they are treating the issue, costs next to nothing (it's just an alias for "delete message"), and may make the user feel better by providing the illusion that something is being done. Maybe they'll tell us just how much they spend on spam filtering to justify their next rate increase!

Comcast hasn't raised HSI prices in some time, only markets that have had rate increases are those that were purchased by Comcast who previously had cheaper HSI. As for video that is another matter.

i never use my ccast email address for anything but consistently get 100s of spam emails there each week. don't waste your time notifying comcast of spam emails; the exercise is a futile waste of time. trust me, they do not take 1 penny of our monthly fees & apply that to supression of spam. again, do not waste your time on attempting to communicate w/ comcast.

Well, we other customers don't think that's a very good idea.. I mean if enough customers tell them, they wil react. I do know that if enough people report spam that particular one will stop, until the headers change, the random words change, or the sending IP changes.. But that's the way of SPAM.. To put it in another light. One individual newview See Profile posts Zombie sitings regularly in the forums there and guess what, that contact with comcast works.. He sometimes has to chide them for inaction on one issue or another, but in the end comcast has stopped that individual.. Sure it could be better, but if there is not contact, there is no reason for them to improve.. The squeaky wheel does get the grease..

Just signed up for this forum after googling info on Comcast spam filtering. Here's the short version of an encounter I had about two weeks ago sitting next to a(will remain unnamed) Comcast Senior Exec on a flight from Philly to SF.

We happened to be chatting (I did not know where he worked) about my Blackberry and configuring for email. (I have one of the new Blackberrys.) Somehow the conversation evolved into discussing ISP's Cable providers, DVR's, Home Page preferences etc, etc. Finally asked who he worked for - Comcast. He then asked what I liked and didn't like about Comcast (We use Comcast for ISP, Cable and Digital phone at my home in San Francisco.) Among other likes and dislikes I told him that I absoutely HATE the way they "filter" spam. It's OK on my laptop because I use an Outlook client which get's 99% of it but I could show him on my Blackberry the dozen or so drug/other bull crap spams I get on this device and that there was nothing I could do about it since I pop directly from Comcast (through T-Mobile.) I told him flat out that I considered their email "Jurassic" by comparison to even HotMail, Yahoo, etc. Turns out I use Yahoo as my home page. So we made a deal. He said that he would PROMISE me that he would fix this NLT 4/1/06 if I would consider using Comcast as my home page and that when he got off the plane he would call back to HQ to make sure this was prioritized. Finally asked him what his role was. All I can tell you is that he is a Senior Exec at Comcast (Corporation)(very senior - I was lucky and upgraded to FC that's how we bumped into each other) and he owns this property (their entire website/email/ISP operation.) He will remain unnamed.
I am not kidding. This is no joke. I intend to keep my end of the bargain. I hope he does the same.
