It may take a few more years but Ma Bell well be back. By 2010 it will be Ma Bell vs Comcast vs Satelite(if still around). We will have more compitation between either sat., cable, or telephone. So it will not be just 1 dominating company. I dont think the FCC will break up Ma Bell again with cable and satelite as compitation.;) |
RadioDoc58ef2c0Premium,ExMod 2000-03 join:2000-05-11 | The FCC did not break up "Ma Bell". The Department of Justice initiated it via an anti-trust suit based mostly on monopolistic practices involving it's Western Electric subsidiary. You may not remember but at the time, AT&T was the largest corporation on the planet, and employed more people than any other entity save the US Government.
AT&T broke itself up to settle the anti-trust suit and avoid what could have been a never-ending prosecution, via a consent decree.
The conditions which allowed "Ma Bell" to rise to power no longer exist, and never will again. What you have now are budding telecommunications media companies vying with each other for bigger slices of a pie not yet baked. The sparring will continue for awhile, but I predict no more than four companies will walk away from the counter with the pastry.
And it's "throne", not "thrown". -- Toolmaster of La Grange. |
