I have no personal experience with separating the two Redpoll species, but I agree that this is a Common. An slightly paler coloration and stubbier bill would be the features to look for in a Hoary Redpoll, but all my guides mention the difficulty in telling the two species apart. I've been back in the Midwest for a few days and have been chasing scores of Dark-eyed Juncos around again. Do you ever see any Evening Grosbeaks around?
