Re: [BT] Bit Torrent download stops my Internet HE said by carpio :
I have the exact problem with bitcomet slowing down and using all of my bandwidth. Has anyone tried out the suggested solution yet? I'm leaning towards reformating my comp. but please post if the solution works. Thanks That's a pretty standard complaint on the BitComet help forums ( »www.p2pforums.com/viewforum.php?f=40 ). You can search those boards if you're looking for some more solutions, but I'll summarize here for you.
There are basically 3 types of "slowdown" issues that BitComet (or other BT clients) can cause.
(1) Running out of TCP Connections, as described above.
(2) Hogging all of your uplink bandwidth (easily identified and corrected by limiting Global Max Upload Rate to 80% of your measured upstream TRANSFER RATE.. in KB/s, not kb/s)
(3) High volume of TCP connections and NAT traffic overwhelms your router... that's particularly an issue with older routers and with the Linksys WRT54G routers. This "looks" like slowness, but what it's really router drop-outs that cause you to drop and regain your network connection. Identify this one by temporarily eliminating your router and connecting directly to the modem. If you have a WRT54G then check here for additional info and a recommended fix. »utorrent.com/faq.php#Special_not···_routers -- Helpful forums like this don't just 'happen'. | reply to CopaMundial I have to limit my upstream cap to about 50% of my upstream because this started happening on faster P2P clients with me too. It's related to ISP's wider practice of bandwidth throttling when P2P is present, usually is only a problem after a pre determined limit is reached. Thing is, your isp will never tell you what it is, but major symptom is when you cap just below your cap and theres many users connected, your upload will be strong, go weak then crawl back up again. These users are drawing more than your max if say 20 are downloading from you on various files, so your global should not go from 50 KB/sec to 10 and crawl back to 30 or so, for example. What is happening here is the client is using a good bandwidth and you have some left, then isp throttles and chokes the pipeline so P2P is using it all and other requests can't get through well. Since some isp judge also in their hardware how many connections to same IP as well as rate, I'd actually if you client allows this, restrict download sources and put a cap on upload volumes. You may not have to nerf your caps as bad and get better overall speed. I applied those settings to Kazaa Lite Resurrection and I fly without restricting upload as much as I do on BT because my BT client don't allow too much restriction on number of connections, and only a few crappy ones do. |
