Re: [DIRECTV] Directv Going To Lease Only On 3/1/0

So as an E* customer thinking about switching to D* (don't ask why), would it benefit me to switch before 3/1 or not? Why?

As a long time D* Subscriber and also a former Satellite Installer I believe you would benefit most as a new customer if you waiting until after the start of the lease program. Perhaps a month or so afterworlds. Let me explain why...

While D* has been preparing for this event in their Call Centers you will undoubtedly encounter those CSRs who are not as familiar with the program as they should be. As a result, you may not get the benefit of "type" of install you need. Whether it be an HD System or a PVR HD System or etc.

By waiting, say, just one month you give yourself a better opportunity for D* to become more accustomed to the change themselves. I know this sounds a bit silly being that it's such a huge organization but there is some merit to this. You also lend yourself over to fact that Installers will have become more familiar with the systems and equipment by then. This will give your "Professional Installation" a better opportunity to be just that, professional.

The new 5 LNB dishes are wonderful and simply amazing when you think about what they must accomplish to pull compression streams off of 5 individual satellites. They are large, think of the size of the 3 LNB "SuperDish".

You should expect 4 RG-6 cables coming off of the new 5 LNB system into where the multi-switch will be housed. With the size of the dish, the amount of cables required for all satellite feeds, do yourself a favor and search around the South-Eastern portions of your home for areas that you believe are optimal for dish placement. Be as prepared as possible for your Installer.

Most important though, if you have what would be considered non-standard installation issues make sure these are documented from the first initial call with D* and then with the Installer should you have the opportunity to speak with them beforehand.

Being that you're already an E* subscriber a lot of the installation issues could already be covered though since the D* installer can possibly use existing cable runs and etc.

Good luck. Post pictures of your new setup to help other members too if you have the opportunity.
