 | It is like most taxes The tax they collect does not go to an account marked from paying off the Spanish American war, it goes into a general fund which can then go to any thing the government needs or has to provide.
As far as you can consider it might as well be a tax on the "War on Terror" or War on Drugs, or even into Bush's paycheck. |

Any (federal) tax could be considered "part of Bush's paycheck". For a leader of a nation, the President of the United States does not make a whole lot of money by the way.
Bill Clinton now makes more money in one month making speeches all around the world then he ever did as a President in a whole year.
The President of the United States earns $400,000 a year. The vice president's annual salary is $186,300. Which is not an awful lot if you compare it to a CEO of a mid-sized company or even a good lawyer or surgeon.
Bill Clinton charges between $50,000 and $100,000 for a single speech. -- The Republican Party is a party of BAD ideas. The Democratic Party is a party of NO ideas. When did PUBLIC SERVICE become viewed as a job vs what it is? It's a duty/honor to serve the public.
Also, when you add in the extras that the president gets, he/she is paid FAR more then $400,000.00 per year.
The president gets free health care, meals, housing in a very nice home, all expenses paid living, travel in a very nice vehicle and the pay doesn't stop after their term ends and they quit working.
Come on. Besides, If you ask me, $400,000 is alot of money for a job that THEY wanted, in the first place, and they get far more out of personally. |

He really doesn't have much in the way of expenses.
His paycheck may say $400k, but his total benifit package is much more. Come on. Besides, If you ask me, $400,000 is alot of money for a job that THEY wanted, in the first place, and they get far more out of personally. $400,000 is not a lot of money. Hell, the president probably costs the tax payers at least a million dollars each year, not counting official state business such as visiting foreign leaders, and not counting campaign costs which have to come from donations.
But even if the President would make $10 million dollars each year, I think we should be a lot more worried about what they actually do with the other 99.999% of the taxes that we pay. Wars on a hunt for weapons that do not even exist and costs $100 billion per year or so? $ 14.5 BILLION dollars to "faith based organizations" so that they can supply schools with brand new bibles instead of replacing the 15 year old atlasses still showing the Sovjet Union? (Yeah, this actually happened 3 years back at the school my neighbour teaches at in a poor district in Los Angeles - they finally got new atlasses last year).
You should be a LOT more worried what they do with the BILLIONS of dollars they squander on wars, grants, projects that will never be profitable, while they hardly pushed a dent in the problems along the gulf coast after Katrina, health care, social security, and renewable energy.
And you worry about the salary of the president? Look, I don't like the current President's policies and all that, but his salary is a whole lot less then he could have been making in the private market. Hell, Cheney used to make millions each year with his cushy Haliburton jobs, and he has to make due with less then $200,000 now. If you ask me, a person that chooses the office of the president, is dedicated enough, and surely does NOT do it because of the pay. Especially since the President pretty much works 12 hours a day, 7 days a week - if not more in a crisis situation. -- The Republican Party is a party of BAD ideas. The Democratic Party is a party of NO ideas. Every now and then a Republican stands up in congress and says: "I got a really BAD idea!", to which a Democrat reponds with: "And I can make it shittier!" |

I'm assuming it would be the same. I am doing some research into this. This is an interesting thing to me to know. I know I read somewhere long ago that not everything is paid for. I'll continue to look throughout the day as I am working here too.
Edit: I called this number 202-456-1111 which is the comment line to the White House. I asked the nice lady who answered what she knew about this. She said that the President does in fact pay for his own clothes and such. She said items like food, travel, are paid for by the government. She said sometimes clothes designers will design something for them but they end up giving that item back depending on the circumstance. Hope this clears up some confusion. And you are more then welcome to call this line and ask as well. |
