| That's great you disagree, but he is not incompetent by measure of just one post. I would venture to say his grammar is miles above yours for one thing. Please refrain from getting upset at his opinion; on the grounds that force-fed rented 'bling' constituting 'good' music that however many people have been told to like is 'better' in any way than composed music with actual melodies.
Alicia Keys is good though... I'm just sayin' a lot of music, of any type these days just stinks. Much of it is devoid of anything worthwhile, it sounds like recycled cardboard glued together by random idiots.
Second, who cares if these artists you speak of are better off financially than anyone else, that is not the point.
The main reason 'music' (which by definition usually includes melodies and often harmonies) from many mainstream sources flat out sucks, is because it's been foisted on people and they consume it. Just because someone sells a ton of records doesn't make 'em any better than the artist selling cd's out of a backpack.
Third, I didn't know this label had the Hackensaw Boys... I saw them play in between De La Soul, Cake, the Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse and others... THAT was a diverse show of talented musicians. At the time, those guys were living out of a van and barely scraping by. For once, a label that might actually care about its people.
Fourth, I can't stand people that use big words like "incompetent" when they can't use the right "your" or "you're" in the right place. At least register before you post some useless rant again. |

| reply to Iceblink8 Please don't lump hip-hop in there as "bad", sure 50 cent and Lil' John and the East side boyz and all those other MTV promoted, mainstream groups suck nutz, after all, how long can you stand hearing the word "what" comprising the lyrics for an entire song? But rock and techno aren't the only genres that have indy labels. A lot of the Indy hip-hop I've heard is much better than many would come to expect, even better than most of the Indy alternative I've been listening to lately. -- My time is a piece of wax, falling on a termite, that's choking on a splinter. --Beck |

 | reply to amungus They are rich because the public has been convinced and force fed through mass marketing that music about the bling bling is the only thing that will ever make you successful in life. Oh and don't rag on people for grammar mistakes I mean this is the internet people always type quick and tend to abbreviate and make typos. |

I'd have to disagree that rap is crap. While that may be your opinion, and you are definately entitled to it, don't define a whole genre simply by what you hear on the radio.
One thing that you may not take into account is that labels/record companies want to make money, and will only sell what they "think" will make them a tidy profit. Since everyone and their grandma wants to have bling in their life, then that's all that you hear about. Political rap isn't popular, so you barely hear it. Underground rap is usually only found on the mixtape circuit, so unless its an indie radio station (exactly how many of those exist today?) then you only hear it by either downloading or buying a mixtape CD.
Another thing is perception. Most people don't believe that any rap song can have a positive message, and as such, if a rapper might have one on his/her album, its most likely to be shelved.
One more thing: A good number of the people I know who love Rock music hate Rap because they claim that Rap is only about sex and drugs. Yet back when Rock was huge, it was largely about sex and drugs as well. What gives? |

 | reply to your a idoit So, is there any point to this post besides adding weight to the stereotype of people who enjoy hip hop and R&B being illiterate, unintelligent, and not worthy of a public voice? |
|
 | I wasn't aware everything was a stereotype. So if 5% don't it is still a stereotype. Please you know what he meant now stop the politically correct knee jerk. |

So partial on your rebuttal that you call this person incompetant and fail to see the valid point in his post? Get the RIAA here, I think they will give you a very high paying job. The valid point is the market is so aimed that those of us who don't happen to like your music are having it shoved down our throat with the record labels' marketing scheme with very few companies offering a broad range of choices to suit all of us! Learn to listen to what people are really saying rather than jump the gun because you are so into the hip hop "thing" that as soon as you hear something that is possibly critical of it, you bring out your mafia hitmen. |
