Cry babies

Wahhh wahhh.... cry babies.

So, if someone calls me names, I can sue them? Damn, if I knew this a long time ago I would be rich!
All those times in high school... just think of the money!

There have been suits in the past over libel.

Who wrote this???

"Dear Sir, calling StarForce "Anti-copying malware" is a good enough cause to press charges and that is what our corporate lawyer is busy doing right now. I urge you to remove your post because it is full of insults, lies, false accusations and rumors. Your article violates approximately 11 international laws. Our USlawyer will contact you shortly. I have also contacted the FBI , because what you are doing is harassment."

This appears to be written by one of their company monkeys. You would think that their "USLawyer" would write a formal, so called, cease and desist letter.

I generally have found that when someone writes something like that, they are also generally speaking through some other orifice than the usual one applied to that purpose.

You don't tell all the laws, etc, you let your legal department send the letter worded in suitable legalese.

I haven't read the blog, but would only comment that so long as negative comments are truthful, then StarForce doesn't have much of a leg to stand on. If the statements are false and it can be proven that they were written with malicious intent and/or caused damages, then and only then might StarForce have a libel case to take to court with some hope of winning.

Not over opinions, it hasn't. Please point me towards a libel suit over where one individual called another an "idiot", "moron", or other such subjective non-descript titles. If subjective labels could be considered libelous, then nobody would ever say anything for fear of bringing up suit. Hell, any publications that ever reviewed any person/product/place would cease to function, as anything published could be basis for a lawsuit. (What, my product got only a 7 out of 10? Libel!)

Now, if I published that StarForce makes computers violently explode and eats babies, then yes...I could be subject to a libel suit. But if I did what BoingBoing did, and label their software a piece of boycott-able crap, then they only have basis for a lawsuit in fantasy land.

I'm sure there have been. Of course, these weren't successful lawsuits.

Well, that would be the key word here. If we were actually tracking simply filed lawsuits, you could probably dig up a case of someone being sued for farting on a rainy day. Granted, the judge would laugh you out of court for it, but I'm sure someone's made the motion at some point in history.

Very well said 2kmaro Hmm i wonder if that orifice will now sue over one's opinion.
