Unix and Linux → cannot start cron; FIFO exists

My cron job is not working. Seems cron daemon has not started.

I am using SOlaris 8 O/S. Here's the error
HELP PLEASE!!!

# cron
! cannot start cron; FIFO exists Fri Feb 3 11:21:40 2006
! ******* CRON ABORTED ******** Fri Feb 3 11:21:40 2006

It looks to me like cron is already started, which is why the FIFO exists. Can you run the command ps -fe and see if cron is already there?
