Re: Are they throttling port 1720 and 1755 now? D/L speed has dropped drastically for me too, on 1755 and on 5100. Victoria Park & 401 Toronto |

 | reply to cgigate I'm also in St. John's, NL and am now getting nothing. I am using BitComet but that doesn't seem to be doing the job. For those of you using it and still getting any speed, what did you do in setup to change settings? AFAIK, I've done everything suggested, and still get 0 b/s. Can you tell me what you've done, or a site that you followed? |

by the way puzz1ed how do you know the new azureus will be out in a few weeks? It's my pet project. I've been keeping track of this for a while now since I explored writing a plugin to avoid traffic shaping last year. You can get a beta version of Azureus now but there's no point unless you want to inspect the implementation.

 | reply to TKI I just downloaded Battlestar Galactica, 174meg file in an 2+ hours. About 22k on average. But other torrents I was doing ok on prior this new throttling are still not moving hardly |

 | reply to puzz1ed Hey puzz1ed, i'm using Bitcomet 0.60 with Protocol Header Encryption enabled and I'm still getting low tranfer rates. How will Azureus v2.4, when released with Protocol Header Encryption, be any different? |
|
 | reply to TKI Right now I'm pulling down two torrents and getting about 75k combined. I'm thinking 1720 is still working here, in Etobicoke. It's not blazing, but not awful either. |
|
 | reply to reets Yes it is certain ports because as of about January 1 my bittorrent speeds dropped to almost nothing, and as soon as I switched to port 1720 the speeds went back up to normal. It's probably a combination of blocking ports and packet types. |

TKI @cpe.net.cable.rogers | reply to TKI how the heck do you guys use port 80? it just isn't working for me. |

 | Using port 1755 right now...

mer42 @cpe.net.cable.rogers | reply to TKI I tried both ports and they don't work! I hate rogers!!! Booo. At first, I thought it was my linksys router problem, but then I unhooked everything and used only my cable modem, and it turned out to be the same thing... Rogers is totally ruining my day! |

 | reply to TKI Hey all, i'm on utorrent/port1755, getting around 15-40k/s, i'm a rogers lite user, and before it had problems connecting and getting throttled but now, utorrent doesnt have network problems. Maybe everyone else is back too? Living in Ajax/Pickering Area |

1 edit | reply to crazynewfie said by crazynewfie:How will Azureus v2.4, when released with Protocol Header Encryption, be any different? Protocol encryption relies on having compatible clients available. Azureus is the most popular client. Apart from that, the scheme is public so others can join in. uTorrent is already "on board". It is also tunable so you can vary or change the level of encryption to suit your needs/preferences.

BitComet encryption is closed source and when I checked a few months ago the authors weren't discussing it. Not knowing what the implementation is like, it could be very good or it could be as simple as flipping a few bits which traffic shapers could easily be adapted to detect. Nevertheless, being closed source, it'll never grow past the BitComet user base. BitComet also doesn't have the easy update feature that Azureus does either so even though you may update to BitComet v0.6 with PHE, many others have not. |

How your guys make BitComet work on 1755 port ? I choose any port, my download/upload is 0. Rogers sucks! I will kill this Robber! |
|
 | reply to TKI HI. I'm in Mississauga Dixie/Dundas Area.
I have been using µTorrent for a month. I noticed fairly slow speeds and I thought it was my client. I edited some preferences and my port is 1720. Now my speed is much better. I went from ~1kBps to one torrent @~90kBps.
Sorry to all you GTA Rogers users. Im currently using Rogers Hi-Speed and am thinking for getting their new bundle. If they cut me off too, I'm headed straight for Bell.
Good Luck |

 | reply to TKI At Yonge/Lawrence. Speeds more or less 0/0 (Extreme) in BitCommet. uTorrent is a little better on 1720, vaguely moving between 3-15K. Still sucks, someone please fix this! |

 | reply to TKI My download speed went downhill since Friday and it was working fine (over 250 kb/s) before. It cannot even go up to 50kb for now. Why doesn't Rogers go back and examine their network infrastructure? Large file transfer is essential nowadays. I guess Rogers will see customers leaving them one by one.... |
|
 | reply to TKI Before Feb 3, port 1720 and 1755 worked fine. Now these 2 ports just drop to a halt. Someone suggested using Http- Tunnel (»www.http-tunnel.com) and I tried it. It WORKS but the speed is inconsistent even with a healthy torrent (the torrent I'm testing on has 11 seeders and 41 peers; the download speed could range from 2KB/s to 40KB/s; average is about 17KB/s). It's better than nothing if the max speed you could get is 5KB/s. |
|
TKI @cpe.net.cable.rogers | reply to TKI how do you config http tunnel to work with the torrents? |
|
 | reply to Anon2006 I guess Rogers will see customers leaving them one by one.... not in areas like mine where there's no dsl, or other cable companies for that matter. |
